I am very honoured to represent Aotearoa New Zealand at the 2026 Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition in Bangkok, bringing together designers from over 100 countries to celebrate cultural identity through Thai silk.
.
For this project, I created two garments: a Thai silk dress and a zero-waste vest made entirely from the fabric remnants of the dress, reflecting the diversity of Aotearoa and the many elements that shape its identity.
.
As a Pākehā New Zealand citizen, it is important to me to showcase that diversity is part of our country. In our culture, identity is never singular or or linear, but impacted by the many stories, influences and fragments that come together.
.
The exhibition also pays tribute to the legacy and royal contributions of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, whose dedication to Thai silk helped preserve and promote Thailand’s cultural heritage.

Sapphica is coming to an end.
The collection, born as an homage to Sappho of Lesbos, the Greek philosopher, singer and poet, set out to spark not only beauty, but hope and encouragement.
As the main premise of this collection was to create resistance against the growing power structures and monopolisation within our world and my industry, I am now, at the end of this season, asking myself: Have I succeeded?
Was I able to create momentum through a collection that has change, empathy and love at its centre?
I am not the one who can answer this question. I will leave that up to all of you to decide.
.
However, I do believe that antagonism is strongest through unity, and I am convinced that art can create unity, bring clarity to the current abstract depiction of our divided society, and be equally capable of conveying resistance, hope and love. Sapphica was never meant to be an idealised portrait of the fashion industry. The collection was meant to reflect its contradictions, its beauty in process, unity, but also its failures.
I want to Thank you for this season.
. To every customer, friend and community member who became part of it. And thank you, Sappho, for teaching me that art can be resistance.  love -Mark

The end of SAPPHICA is approaching. 🖤

This collection has always been about more than clothes. SAPPHICA was born from questions around identity, power, desire, visibility and resistance through art. The spaces we create for ourselves in a world that still tries to define who we should be.

Over the coming days, I will be sharing the final three posts on SAPPHICA. They will be my last contributions about this collection, and a chance to share what sat behind my work for SS26.
