For the first time in North America and the 2nd time ever Norwegian metal legends @abbath_official @arveisdal and @geddaherfindal joined by Abbath bassist @nekromann assembled at the @fireinthemountains festival on the grounds of the Black Feet Nation to perform their album “Between Two Worlds” for the record’s 20th anniversary

With a near full moon rising behind them and raging mountain winds at their backs the band whipped the crowd, made up of the three genders: motherfuckers ladies and warriors, into a full on frenzy.

Highly recommend seeing them if given the opportunity, looks like the next chance will be at @midgardsblot in a few weeks and @wackenopenair.official next year 🤘

They’re going to have to invent new adjectives to describe how powerful this set was. The last chance I got to see @neurosisoakland was at Maryland Death Fest in 2015 and thought that might have been my last chance after they took a several year hiatus, but when the reunion was announced for this years @fireinthemountains festival I knew I had to make the journey. The addition of @aaronbturner to the band made perfect sense and it felt like he’d always been there from the second the band launched in to Mirror Deep off their new record “An Undying Love for a Burning World”.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the title of that record since it came out and this festival experience deepened my feelings about our present times. In the midst of genocide, war, environmental destruction, unchecked corruption, income inequality and all the horrors that make it feel like we live in a full on hell world there are still Times of Grace, a reason to go on and continue seeking and creating a better future, reasons to hold on to that undying love even as the fire threatens ever closer.

@fireinthemountains embodies this idea to hold on to our love for this burning world fully in their partnership with the @firekeeperalliance a non profit that focuses on suicide prevention and mental wellness in the indigenous community of the Blackfeet Nation, where the festival takes place. Through creating music and cultural programs & events like FITM and inviting the local community to take part the @firekeeperalliance and @fireinthemountains are demonstrating perfectly how heavy music experiences can be vehicles for transformative change in ways I’d love to see more festivals embrace in the future.

It was a privilege and an honor to be able to witness and document this beautiful event and I hope to return for as long as the Fire In The Mountains keeps burning. taken in Blackfeet Nation by @markbrown
