Help me get my fifth star in Tokyo
POSTS STORIES REELS
I hope I can thank two great organizations in one post. @cararuns and @heartbreak.chi each played a huge role in my @chimarathon On May 25th, I thought I was just going for a run with some shoe store down the road. By the end of the night, I was a lifetime member of their running club. I embraced their "risk heartbreak" mantra on May 30th and set my goal at 4:30--an over 35 minute improvement over my run last year. I was proud to show up every week knowing I was going to be the slowest one there. It helped that I was welcomed and given as much respect from all the speedy members as someone training for a 2:30 Marathon. I can't thank you guys enough. On June 2nd, I was approached about becoming a pace leader with CARA and happily accepted a few days later. This was an experience I won't soon forget. Winning the spirit award at the LP location was humbling enough. The messages I've received from some of my group members have brought me to tears. I'm happy and proud to have helped so many get to the start and finish line--especially the first timers. Not to mention that the power of the group helped me on those early Saturday morning long runs as well. I had a good day Sunday. I set a bunch of PRs as far as Strava is concerned. I juuuuuuust missed my goal of 4:30 by 24 seconds, but I'm taking that as mission accomplished and off to my next challenge (whatever that may be) by @markburns_runs
It was another great running year in 2024. First International Marathon, 3 Personal Best times, met my "moonshot goal" of sub-2 Half Marathon, and had lots of fun! See you in 2025!!! by @markburns_runs
Beyond excited for this finish. 35 mins faster than last year and a 13 minute 32 second PR over my result 17 years ago. I'm on top of the world. by @markburns_runs

Happy 14th Anniversary Weekend by @markburns_runs
October 22, 2006, I ran my first Marathon. I trained on my own, and though I enjoyed it, it was simply a bucket list item. 16 years later, I decided to do another one (just one more). Training with @cararuns was so much more enjoyable with the great squads I ran with, that I decided to keep going beyond just another one and beyond just Chicago. Since then I've made countless friends both at CARA and other running clubs (most notably @heartbreak.chi ) and I plan to keep doing this as long as I can. I love the running community. I know it's yet another silly, self-promoting, self-loving reel, but making them makes me smile. Thanks for watching by @markburns_runs

Though this is the weekend of the last long run for the Chicago Marathoners, I'm just starting my Tokyo journey with 22 weeks to go. The mornings this time of year never disappoint with their perfect sunrises regardless of distance. Shameless pitch for my Tokyo fundraising for @girlsinthegame. Link in my bio. Official pics and video showed up over night, so one more post. I should be done after this. Should be. #runmagmile5k by @markburns_runs
Red Light Relay and Mag Mile 5k photo dump. The 5k is the third race of five in my Tokyo training racing plan. I didn't quite hit my (aggressive) A Goal, but I ran much better than my recent tempo runs and I finished tenth in my age group. Not to mention I surpassed my B Goal by miles. Hot Chocolate 10k is next! by @markburns_runs

Photo dump from a fun weekend in Green Bay for the Shamrock Series. Fenway (2015), Soldier Field (2021), and now Lambeau, Notre Dame is 3-0 in games I've attended in this series. Sorry my fellow Bear fans, Lambeau is a great stadium. Lots of fun and historic. Oh, and then there's hanging with Ron Dayne before the game... by @markburns_runs
