Been debating for the last 2 years on what I wanted to do with video (and even debated on posting this lol!) because the hardest part in making a decision isn’t the decision itself but the one way road you have to stay on, you can’t turn back.

Do I want to form a video production company? Do I want to be known as the video content creator? Do I just want to be the Drock to someone else’s GaryVee empire? And then I decided to really reflect.

As someone who is on the path of entrepreneurship and especially as a creative (I like to call it creativepreneur) you face two problems:

Improving your craft as a creative & being more business savvy. Two in which I wished I started when I was in my teen years and with the last few years really trying to hone in on the business side of things.

So I focused on the foundation of what brought me to where I am now: who I am as a person, what I believe in and what really makes me passionate about my work.

So I laid the foundation and it’s time to build. Better late than never! Here’s Kwento Studios 🎥🎥🎥 taken in San Jose, California by @markcayabyab_ks

Good luck to the bro @islam.abdusamadov_ on his fight today & the best coaches @alvarezcosio @relentlessboxingtc 🦅🥊

It’s amazing to see athletes not just performing at the highest level but preparing for it, behind the scenes. Work is done and it’s time to show up!

Had the opportunity to shoot for @islam.abdusamadov_ thanks to @alvarezcosio @relentlessboxingtc !

When I first got introduced to boxing 4 years ago, I would watch all the HBO 24/7, Showtime All Access and even film study breakdowns. I wasn’t just watching boxing for entertain, I would be studying boxers from the 1970’s - now. Eventually went from hitting the hitting bag, to doing partner drills, to taking sparring classes and participating in a smoker fight. All in all, the best athletes are combat sport athletes and I have nothing but respect for what they go through.

It really helps to be a part of the sport of what you’re filming because you can have foresight on what will happen next. 🥊🎥 taken in Santa Clara, California by @markcayabyab_ks

Had an opportunity to record and edit for @oregondanceteam! The thing that I love about video is sometimes you’ll get the opportunity to shoot outside of what you normally record. You go into the gig “semi-blind” and you just get to see how everything unfolds in front of you! So awesome to capture the classes that unfolded here in the Bay Area and the energy that day! Big shoutout to @maya.zafrani for the opportunity!

Fun fact: Before film production, your boy bboy’d for 6-7 years competing in the Bay Area with the crew I was in from end of Middle School to a little bit past college 😂 taken in San Jose, California by @markcayabyab_ks

It’s been almost 2 months since I came back on here posting content consistently and sustainably. Here are the top 3 learnings:

1️⃣No fluff, here are my numbers for the past 2 months: 17,649 views, 6,312 Accounts reached (+1,624.6%) Instagram Trial Reels & Stories is the strategy right now for growth.

2️⃣ I posted 19 videos for 2 months and I’ve posted 30 videos for 30 days straight last year, Social media growth has been faster and better just by posting 3/week and focusing on quality. If we’re tracking vanity metrics, 2 of my recent videos has gotten more views than 30 of my previous videos I did last year.

3️⃣ Being a solo operator and by focusing less on quantity and more on quality, it’s allowed me to focus on biz dev, content strategy and testing/analyzing. Sustainably, I’m able to spend more time outside of social media (but now we have to focus on trying to fit in fitness cause we are struggling hard 😂) taken in San Francisco, California by @markcayabyab_ks

In my 8 years of filming, I have yet to experience a perfect shoot. Not in the sense of missing an important moment but getting every shot exactly as “I” planned.

With this being my first time filming outside with pure sunlight, working with timing, angles, no grids, etc, I definitely learned a lot in this specific scenario. Here are 3 lessons + 1 bonus lesson:

1️⃣ - I think we did a lot of reshoots for a “just in case measure” and although a few of them saved the edit, a lot of the shots were used on the first few takes. When shooting in the day light with no grids and no PA to help with bounces, you’re racing against time. Once you got a good shot or 2, move on.

2️⃣ - 4 shots I planned couldn’t be executed and it was due to the lack of understanding of how the preplanned example was shot. This showed that there’s still more to learn and we always have to adapt, quickly. This was one of them and probably my most favorite one.

3️⃣ - Using my iphone app to track the sun in the preproduction phase, it said this specific shot I could have gotten after 1PM. 1PM comes and the sun was in the right area but it was too high to get any light leaks so we waited…an additional 4-5 hours. Alternatively, we could have prioritized this shot at the start of the shoot. Always physically location scout to the best of your abilities and watch for not just the area of where the sun will be but the height.

4️⃣ - Lastly always prep the equipment so it’s ready. We had a secondary camera on deck that we could have easily use if it was placed on the gimbal but we ended up just using the 1 camera between the handheld and gimbal… If you have the resources use it especially for a time consuming shoot.

A lot of lessons but I’m happy because that just shows there’s room for growth 📈 taken in San Francisco, California by @markcayabyab_ks

A fit, high/energy runner reveals a fit, past self, cutting to a relatable present-day version who’s been enjoying a lot more ice cream and a lot less running but gearing up to “get back on track” with the help of @strava .

Decided to create my very first Spec Ad (after 8 years into this 😂)to accomplish 3 things: Understand natural lighting, try new things (pre to post) & create a video that reflects lifestyle & technology.

The concept comes from the idea of “reflection,” where we once were. We often look back at our former, glorified selves with both nostalgia and motivation, wanting to chase that version of ourselves and bring it into the present. That’s where the word “track” comes in, which I explored as a triple entendre: a runner on a track field, tracking progress with Strava and getting back on track in life. While many brands lean into high-energy, hype-driven sports videos, my goal is to create something more relatable to this universal feeling: clothes getting a little bit smaller, we get caught up with our indulgences(ice cream) and things physically get harder 😭😂

Shoutout @_johnviet for being the best camera operator/DP/secondary “track runner” a friend can ask for! taken in San Francisco, California by @markcayabyab_ks

The one thing I love about sports videography are the unique styles of showcasing movement. Some questions I ask myself: What mood do I want to showcase? Am I showing the grittiness of the workout? How can I showcase the feelings of the talent? How can I showcase what the talent is doing other than its surface level action?

We tested a couple of new movements, camera techniques and shitty rigs but nonetheless, the shots add to the story! Always wanted to do a sports related spec ad so shoutout to @_johnviet for working with me and doing multiple takes during the hot ass weather 😂

Excuse the ugly acting face but Spec Ad incoming!

Decided to try a few techniques I’ve never done like this POV shot or Snorricam! The one thing I love about filmmaking is you got to be crafty and find ways to make it work without the crazy budget, something I’ve learned to lean in on growing up. We used a tripod, belt, a little bit of pain tolerance/grit and prayer 😂
