Some books entertain you. Some books stay with you. Anxious People did both.

I picked it up expecting a story of failed bank robbery. What I found was a beautiful, heartfelt story about ordinary people. Their fears, mistakes, regrets and the quiet hope that keeps them going are depicted so beautifully. A group of strangers, an apartment viewing gone wrong, and a father-son police duo trying to solve the mystery make for a fast paced and engaging read. By the end, it leaves you with a little more hope, a little more empathy, and a reminder that people are rarely just what they seem.

A heartwarming read that reminds us to be a little kinder, a little more patient and a little less quick to judge.

Verity by Colleen Hoover

The eerie feeling throughout this book had me hooked. I read it in one sitting. I thought I knew where it was going. But it went way beyond anything I expected. The writing was so intense I could see every scene. The fear, the shock, the uneasiness, everything could be felt. The suspense never let up, making it impossible to put down.

Every single one of the characters had a shade of grey. By the end, I didn’t know who to trust. The morally grey characters, constant twists, and unreliable narrative kept me questioning everything. I even went looking for the extra epilogue chapter that was not included in my copy, and that somehow made me question everyone even more.

A dark, addictive psychological thriller that messes with your mind so much you end up hating almost everyone. The plot twists, manipulation, and mystery stay with you long after you finish the book.

The only thing that didn’t work for me was the amount of spice, a bit too much for my taste. But overall? What a ride. 🖤 @colleenhoover

The Last Toast by Angelique Bosman

ARC Review

The Last Toast is an enjoyable cosy mystery with plenty of small town charm. Rose Winter moves to Pinewell for a fresh start and takes a position at the local historical society. She is approached by a wealthy neighbour who has found an old deed on his estate that appears to conceal a long buried secret. However, before he can share the details, he is murdered.

The book is intriguing in its own way. I enjoyed how the mystery unfolded through careful investigation rather than dramatic twists. It doesn’t keep you on the edge of your seat trying to solve the mystery. Instead, it takes a subtle and measured approach, allowing the clues and discoveries to develop naturally without ever feeling rushed.

The writing style is simple, accessible, and easy to follow, making this a very comfortable read. It has all the charm of a cosy mystery, with a small town setting. I read it in a single sitting because I couldn’t stop until I discovered the truth, which is usually the case with my favourite mystery reads.

If you enjoy cosy mysteries with small town settings, this is worth picking up.

Thank you to the author @angelique.bosman.author for providing a copy of the book.

The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods

“How far would you go to find where you belong?”

A lost bookshop that appears when you least expect it, three unforgettable characters, and a mystery waiting to be uncovered. What more could a book lover ask for?

The book follows the stories of Martha, Henry, and Opaline, moving between different timelines and perspectives. Martha is trying to rebuild her life after escaping an abusive marriage. Henry arrives in Dublin searching for a vanished bookshop and a rare missing manuscript. And Opaline’s story takes us back to the 1920s, where she dares to pursue a life beyond the expectations placed upon her.

As the story moves between past and present, the characters find themselves drawn into a mystery that links their lives in surprising ways.

I loved how the book brings together books, mystery, dreams, and the idea of finding your place in the world. The bookshop itself adds a lovely touch of magic to the story.
It’s such a wonderful read, especially for anyone who loves stories about books, second chances, and finding the courage to believe in yourself.

Mrs Funnybones by Twinkle Khanna

My first book by @twinklerkhanna , and this was such a fun, easy read!

It is a funny, witty, and light hearted read written in a diary style format, with Twinkle and her family at the centre of the stories. Many of the situations she describes are instantly recognisable from everyday Indian households, which makes the book feel relatable and entertaining.

I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times while reading it. My daughter kept giving me puzzled looks every time I did. 😂

What I particularly enjoyed was how she talks about feminism, culture, relationships, parenting, and various aspects of our society in a light and humorous way. Her observations are witty, sarcastic at times, and often surprisingly insightful.

There’s nothing too heavy or complicated here, just everyday life served with plenty of humour and a sharp perspective. A simple, entertaining read that I think is perfect when you want something light.

The Keeper Of Stories by Sally Page

I picked this one up mainly because I loved the cover. 😄 But honestly, I was very close to putting it down.

Janice is a cleaner who works in different houses, and she is also a collector of stories. She loves listening to other people’s lives, but she has never shared her own story with anyone. That changes when she starts working for Mrs B, a sharp and curious woman who seems very interested in Janice’s story.

This was definitely a slow burn read for me. The first half felt a little too slow, and I struggled to connect with the story. It was only in the second half that I became more invested.

I really liked the relationship between Mrs B and Janice. Their friendship felt genuine and heartwarming. Watching Janice finally stop accepting her husband’s behaviour and choose herself for a change was my favourite part of the book.

We often think of stories as the happy memories we want to share, but sometimes the difficult ones need to be told too. Keeping everything bottled up can become a burden, while sharing even the painful parts can make them feel a little lighter.

For me, this was a slow burn read that took some time to find its rhythm. It was not particularly exciting, but it was not bad either. Not a book I connected with right away, but by the end I was glad I stayed with it.

Before The Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

A quiet, emotional read about love, loss, regret, and all the things left unsaid. I loved the idea of being able to go back and share one more moment with someone from your past, even knowing you cannot change the future. Simple, moving, and full of heart. I read this last year, but the feelings never quite left. Looking forward to returning to this world with the next book in the series.

The Book Of Doors by Gareth Brown

The premise of the book is very interesting. Cassie works in a bookstore, and one evening, just before closing, her regular customer, Mr. Webber, dies and leaves behind a mysterious gift, the Book of Doors. This magical book has the power to take its owner anywhere in the world simply by opening a door.

Cassie shares this secret with her friend Izzy, and they begin exploring the possibilities without realising the dangers that come with it. What follows is a magical adventure filled with mystery, hidden secrets, and unforgettable characters.

What I loved most about this book was the sense of magical exploration. It is a theme I enjoy immensely. The story has a steady pace, combining adventure, mystery, and magic in a way that constantly makes you want to know what happens next. I often found myself reading “just one more chapter” because I was so hungry for more.

One of the highlights of the novel was the friendship between Cassie and Izzy. Their bond felt genuine and added warmth to the story. The time travel and the parts involving the younger and older Cassie were a little confusing at times, but not to the point where I couldn’t follow the story.

The negative characters were wonderfully written because they were genuinely horrible. There were a few scenes where I was literally reading while holding my breath.

The setting, characters, and central premise were all wonderfully crafted. What impressed me most was how all characters and storylines eventually wove together into a satisfying whole. The book balances magic, mystery, friendship, and adventure beautifully.

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

My first Agatha Christie novel. I started this without really knowing what to expect and ended up finishing it in a single sitting. I was intrigued from the beginning and kept trying to figure out what was going on. And the best part? I kept guessing till the very end. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I had to rethink my theory. 😂

I went in knowing very little about the story, and I am glad I did. It is definitely one of those classic mystery novels where the less you know beforehand, the better.
If you enjoy murder mysteries and books that keep you guessing, this one is worth checking out.

A pretty great first Agatha Christie experience for me! 🔎📖
