There is something so sacred about Black joy.

Not because it ignores the weight of the world, but because it chooses to rise in spite of it.

These moments remind me why I do this work. Why spaces created for us, by us matter. Places where we can dance without explanation, laugh until our faces hurt, celebrate our stories, embrace our culture, and simply exist as our full selves.

In a world that can make it difficult to find reasons to smile, protecting spaces where our community feels seen, safe, free, and deeply connected isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.

Looking through these photos, I couldn’t stop thinking about the lyrics:
“As long as you keep your head to the sky, you can win…”

A reminder that hope still lives above us, joy still lives within us, and our community will always find a way to rise together.

This is what the HBCU experience has always been about.
This is what Mile High Yardfest was created to celebrate and protect.
This is Black joy.
And it is beautiful.

We couldn’t have asked for a better way to close out the 2026 Mile High HBCU Weekend. The overcast skies gave us the perfect morning to move together, and the energy never stopped from start to finish.

From our bands workout with @upgradeu_kj to trap yoga with @blackbearyogastudio , every class was filled with encouragement, good vibes, and community. Huge shoutout to @dj_cyn for setting the perfect soundtrack all morning long—you kept us moving!

A heartfelt thank you to our wellness instructors, vendors, sponsors, and community partners for helping make Moving in Excellence such a memorable experience. Your support made this event possible, and we’re so grateful to everyone who showed up, showed out, and chose wellness with us. Thank you to @mycircleretreats for keeping us hydrated with her hydration table sponsorship and to @fairwayonthefly for bringing their mobile golf simulator and allowing our community the opportunity to test their swing!
