More offerings from the GEM in Cairo. This recently opened and much anticipated new home to Egyptian antiquity does not disappoint. Delayed for every reason, the GEM finally opened and awes visitors from the get-go. Its expansive exterior dwarfs the awaking crowd and once inside, continues to overwhelm where you’re suddenly affronted by a skyrocketing Ramses II. Endless stairwells are peppered with incredible carvings while adjacent galleries are lined with scrolls, jewelry, burial artifacts and more. Tutankhamen at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo. An exquisite display of the famed ‘death mask’. I isolated the mask from personal pics taken yesterday and added a contextual video at the end. Before the GEM opened, the Mask was housed in a small display room in the Egyptian Museum in downtown Cairo and photos forbidden. The new museum encourages photos and the display is accompanied by an expansive exhibit of Tut’s tomb content. Special surprise for me. Was enjoying an evening on the rooftop of my Egyptian brother, Ibrahim who had invited me over for a visit. He suggested we drop by a family friend’s son’s wedding. During the short drive we passed the Colossi on Memnon which I’d seen many times but never at night. They suddenly appeared in a glowing light of orangish gold. Magnificent in scale, beautifully highlighted and standing guard in front of the remnants of the temple complex. The majestic West Bank mountains in the near distance, home of countless famed historic sights added a depth to the Colossi unseen in daylight. Such an impressive experience and so unexpected. Reportedly, the carvings are 60 ft high and weigh in at 720 tons. #egypt #colossiofmemnon #luxor #valeyofthekings taken in Colossi of Memnon by @markitart

Another visit to the incomparable Karnak Temple Complex in Luxor, Egypt. The famed obelisks, hypostile hall and hieroglyphics as impressive and awe-inspiring as ever. The obelisk carvings defy logic. For the last 20+ years, we’ve collaborated and produced physical holiday greeting cards featuring our pets in silly situations that often reference our travels and mimic our everyday lives. No AI, just sweat equity and (hopefully) genuine creativity. In light of popularized image manipulation, we elected to not create a card this year and instead embrace the technology to bring a handful of our past cards to life.
