👏🏻 BARRENS release new album “Corpse Lights” today!

Corpse Lights, Barrens’ sophomore album, is somehow deeper, richer and headier; imbued with an alluring compositional patience that serves as unspoken testament to the combined creativity of the trio in their element, as something so much greater than the sum of its parts. Recorded and produced by Kristofer Jönson, who also helmed Penumbra, and mixed and mastered once again by Cult of Luna’s Magnus Lindberg, shimmering synthesizers and sprawling guitars lead the charge propelled by exhilarating drums and percussion but Corpse Lights also finds Barrens using space, silence and atmosphere as another instrument if not as another band member entirely.

The result is Corpse Lights, a collection of nine pieces that guide us through five tumultuous years of highs and lows, of loves and losses and victories and defeats without ever needing to say a word.
__________________________

“With their synth-driven, elegant post-rock, the three Swedes Barrens deliver the musical counterpart to the atmosphere after a storm in times of climate change: nature and humans are only slowly coming out of hiding.” - Metal Hammer

“There’s so much lush story telling in Corpse Lights, which takes some mighty skill in an instrumental album. Expansive, sorrowful, and consistently full of awe in it’s very deepest sense, BARRENS have created something magical and otherworldly with this record.” - Distorted Sound
__________________________

🎧 Hit the link in bio to stream “Corpse Lights” and/or order the album!

@barrens_official

🤯 BARRENS drop new single “The Derelict”

From the meticulously crafted sonic arc of lead single ‘Periastron’, which rises and falls in effortless yet visceral measure and how ‘Sorrowed’ pulls itself apart only to rebuild anew to the mesmering percussive passage in the midst of ‘The Derelict’ and the split second of air to catch your breath before epic album closer ‘A Nothing Expands’ erupts, Corpse Lights can too be considered a document; but this time of the brotherly bond that binds Barrens transcending the confines of life on the road to become something new and uncharted, something alive.

🎧 Hit the link in bio to stream this expansive single or pre-order the album!

The End.

”The legendary alternative rock band Souls was active between 1991 and 1997, and during their lifetime managed to record two albums together with none other than Steve Albini – an icon in the raw honesty of sound. In the current music video, we get a look back at the band’s first meeting with Albini, who recorded their debut album Tjitchischtsiy (Sudêk) in the summer of 1994 at Starec Studio in Växjö. Behind the camera was the director and writer Antonio Tublén.

In 2016, Souls returned to Chicago’s Electrical Audio – the place where the raw can shine – to record three new songs. This journey was captured by filmmaker Ulf Södergren, who is also behind the music video you are now watching. The recording and the film were made possible through a crowdfunding campaign, and the idea was that the project would result in a documentary film and a long-awaited tour. But life – with its sharp turns and fateful interruptions – wanted something different.

Two of the songs from the recording, “WHOOEWHOO” and “TROLLMAKT”, have already been released and are now echoing freely across digital landscapes. But the third and final song, “THREE LOST SOULS”, is only now seeing the light of day – and will thus be the last thing Souls will ever give the world.

It is a song about breakups and reunions. About friendship, loss, and the paradoxical power of music – how it both heals and tears. How it can fill that eternal void within us, but also deepen it. “THREE LOST SOULS” is a farewell – but also an echo of what was. The pain of creating. The pain of not creating.

– In 2024, we lost two strong souls: Steve Albini and Andreas Catjar-Danielson – both left us far too soon. Thank you to Steve Albini and his family, Taylor Hales and everyone who has been a part of this journey. Thank you for all the support and love from fans, friends and our families over the years. We love you, greetings Cecilia, Johan and Markku.”
