When he’s not barreling down Koffin puisto at 100 km/h on a skateboard, Marc-Antoine🇨🇦 (or Markku🇫🇮) can be found serving rare treats from the wine world’s gritty underbelly at restaurant @m_a_u_k_k_u 🍷 You know, the type of wines that come without a safety rail.

“Why Natural eh? Because the world is messed up and we need collective consciousness more than ever. About who we want to support in this overly industrialised capitalist society. About how and what we consume on a daily basis. Natural wine is a philosophy, a way to change things for the better, in a scene that can, or at least used to be viewed as hyper-elitist. Support small farmers, eat the rich and pair it with some of that good natural stuff.” ❗️

So, if you thought ”natuviini” is just about who uses sulfites and who doesn’t, think again. ☝🏻🤓

Natural wine is often misunderstood because it occupies a contradiction. It can look wild, and it can certainly taste wild, but at heart it comes from a stricter discipline: fewer interventions, more accountability. It rejects additives, not technique. It isn’t just a trend about sulfites. It’s a stance on authorship - who makes the wine: the farmer or the formula?

Despite being somewhat trendy, natural wine has been around forever. But where will it be in 10, 20 or 30 years, nobody knows - well, except maybe Markku. 🤣

While the students at Viinimö will certainly learn about the nuances of natural vs. low-intervention, wild ferments and all things bretty, Markku is not here to define natural wine. He’s here to question the entire system.

This will definitely be a not-your-average-wine-course part of the day.
