In rebuilding this project I thought it was important to look back at the music I still love — the stuff that first got me obsessed with writing music. The scene, the festivals, living through the era of electro and EDM. A festival every weekend, time with friends, making new friends. Loving every minute of it.

Somewhere along the way, as times moved on and sounds changed, I got serious about music and forgot to have fun with it.

Going back to where this all started is a big part of how I’m rebuilding this now.

Built these speakers myself over ten years ago, back when I left my job to go all in on music. They’ve taken a beating since, dogs, toddlers, moving house 3 times. So this week I brought them back to life, with a little upgrade.

Does anyone else care this much about music?

I’ve got a folder of tracks I released and never play out. Not because they flopped. Some did well. Because somewhere along the way I stopped writing for me and started writing for an A&R, a publisher, a chart, a label I wanted to impress.

Turns out you can write a “good” song and still not love it.

40, still doing this, and finally writing the stuff I actually want to play out. Anyone else been here?

I feel like I’ve had writers block for the last couple of weeks. I’ll sit down and work for a couple of hours. Get an idea going but then listen to it an hour later and hate it.

Today was the first day in a few months where I wrote a track that I genuinely love that ties back to my roots and music that I was listening to in my 20s.

I feel so incredibly lucky to have been clubbing in my 20s in the 2000s and 2010s. Is there any better era in dance music?

I’m slowly rediscovering what I love and why I got in to writing Music in the first place and it makes me a little bit sad to realise that I’ve been creatively lost for a bit.

Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come.
