Experimental Alphabet

This graphic design project was developed at the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg, Faculty of Design. Students explored the alphabet as an open system rather than a fixed set of characters. The focus was not on legibility or individual letters, but on experimental variations and possibilities in letter and character construction.

By combining two letters, new forms and meanings emerged, challenging conventional typographic structures. The resulting alphabet exists in a loose, non-linear order, emphasizing process, transformation, and visual experimentation.

The project was realized as a printed publication in a limited edition of 25 copies, where the small print run reinforces the concept of limitation and uniqueness.

Paper makes print happen! 🟢🔴

Papier ist nicht gleich Papier – gerade beim Drucken macht es oft den entscheidenden Unterschied.

Deshalb freuen wir uns, dass @metapaper unser offizieller Papierpartner beim ersten Risotopia Festival ist!

Metapaper ist mit einem eigenen Stand vor Ort. Und das Beste: An unseren Workshop-Stationen könnt ihr verschiedene Papiere direkt ausprobieren und schauen, wie sie sich beim Drucken verhalten. Denn manchmal muss man Papier einfach in die Hand nehmen, Farbe draufbringen und selbst sehen, was passiert.

Ob Farbe, Struktur oder Haptik – wir sind gespannt auf eure Experimente und die vielen unterschiedlichen Druckergebnisse, die dabei entstehen.

🔴 Risotopia Party 2026

The festival is over — but we’re not done yet. 🪩

Right after the first Risotopia Festival, we’re heading directly across the street from the Neues Museum Nürnberg to blok for a night of music, drinks and good company.

Starting at 6 p.m., åthlete and Maurice Schirm will be playing for you.

And if everything works out, we’ll even have the Riso Lamp from the workshop with @drucken3000 lighting up the night. 🔴💡

So don’t go home just yet.

Let’s get the Risotopia Party started.

Vernissage JAZZ & DESIGN auf dem @nuejazz Festival 2026

Jazz ist Jazz. Aber eben auch ein Sammelsurium an Geschichten und Gestaltung. Musik ist nicht zu denken ohne Design: von den ersten Handzetteln über die Gestaltung von Instrumenten, Bühnen und Plattencovern bis hin zu Fotos, Filmen, Webseiten und Games.

Design prägt das Bild des Jazz. Und das Image derer, die ihn machen. Dabei schadet schlechte Gestaltung. Und gute half schon immer:
durch Labels wie Blue Note, ECM oder ACT, durch unglaubliche Fotografien, bewegende Konzertmitschnitte und unvergessliche Videos.
Weil ein Festival wie NUEJAZZ Gestaltung schätzt und Jazz für nachfolgende Generationen öffnet, gibt es von Beginn an »Jazz & Design«.

Eine Ausstellungsreihe, in der junge Designer*innen auf improvisierte Musik und die Traditionen des Jazz reagieren. Plakate, Illustrationen und Wörter als Geschichten. Typografische Arbeiten erobern den Raum. »Six-Word-Storys« erzählen Erstaunliches.
Zeichnungen interpretieren Jazzstandards neu. Denn diesmal werden die Räume von Studierenden der Professor*innen Sybille Schenker, Markus Lange und Max Ackermann bespielt.

From September 15–20, our exhibition TOO MUCH is shown during Zagreb Design Week at the Academy of Fine Arts (ALU).

TOO MUCH is a collection of posters confronting the overwhelming amount of everything: too much crisis, too much information, too much consumption, too much power, too much noise, too much missunderstanding.

We were asked whether we believe political posters can have an impact. We have to answer that question with another question: Are we supposed to remain silent? Should we, as artists, only make beautiful images? Should we censor ourselves, hide our opinions, look away?

Too much also means not enough. We need togetherness. We need exchange. We need human warmth. We long for the small things in life—for connection, for closeness, for the simple happiness of making something with our own hands.

Too much means, above all, not enough. We have to stay alert. The results in Saxony-Anhalt show us that democracy cannot be taken for granted. It is something we must protect together.

SIGNAL LOST — TENERIFE. Some sessions stay with you.

Our @posterrex exhibition at the Facultad de Bellas Artes at Universidad de La Laguna grew out of one of the most memorable POSTER REX sessions we have ever done. It all started in Tenerife thanks to Filip Zagórski of @type2_design. Together with @sublimetaller in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, we brought an amazing group of designers around one table: @javi_cabrera_dg, @jonayjimenez, @tiposensutinta, @cristinaguitian, @andreaalvaradocorrea, @lars.harmsen / @slanted_publishers and @markus_lange. Different voices, different backgrounds, one session. The result was a powerful body of posters and a first exhibition in February 2026.

This September 7–18, that energy returned: the posters came together again for a massive exhibition at @facbellasartesull, Universidad de La Laguna, Sala de Exposiciones. A highlight was September 10, when our friends from @sublimetaller joined for a live PRINT’N’DANCE session. The rules were simple: bring something you already own. Put another layer on it. Give it another life. Don’t buy. Recycle.

On top, HUEVO @hermanomono brought the raw energy of Tenerife’s punk scene into the room. Punk, hardcore and DIY culture met posters and screen printing. Loud, direct and without distance between the people making something and those experiencing it. A poster doesn’t have to remain framed on a white wall. It can be printed, copied, pasted, carried away, worn on a shirt, danced in, damaged, overprinted and given another life. by @markus_lange

MIX & MATCH CALENDAR 2027 — EDITION NO. 05

Markus is signing the prints for this year’s edition of the Mix & Match Art Calendar by @thehappyclub.de in Munich.

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to make it to the release party this year, as we’ll be in Zagreb for our exhibition. We’re really sorry to miss it — and incredibly happy and grateful to be part of this wonderful project once again.

Over 100 artists in 4 years, 27 new artworks for 2027, 450 calendars — and you get to mix & match your own 12 prints.
