1. I’m absolutely terrified of heights! And that fear gets me every time to second guess whether or not I even want to get on the plane.

2. My hands still get clammy just thinking about the jump even though I trust myself to get myself back down to safety.

3. I’ve crash landed through a tree, one of the three biggest dangers to a skydiver. I’m honestly just glad I’m alive after that one.

4. I’m petrified that my harness won’t work and that I’ll slip out of my chest strap or leg straps when I go to deploy my canopy.

5. I can’t help but imagine just dangling from my canopy at 3,500ft, holding on for dear life if something DID actually go wrong.

6. I’m insanely afraid of the day one of my friends ceases to exist because of this sport.

I love this sport dearly and it’s taught me so much about trusting myself, what I can accomplish, the humility required to constantly grow even when it’s public, and what true friendship really looks like.

This crude form of therapy is wonderful and yet comes at a cost. I’m learning that the price to pay is pain, fear and anxiety but the result of that payment is a life well-lived, shared only with the brave few.
Every single one of us dances with death each day but skydivers, we hold death with such a tight embrace, one misstep and death may choose to take the lead.

If you like skydiving, scuba diving, flying planes and everyday philosophical concepts, you found your people.

1. If I fall out on accident under 2500ft, will I be ready to deploy my backup?

It’s widely known in the sport, that the lower you are in altitude, the more you should be ready to go to your reserve canopy, NOT your main canopy. The main takes too long to deploy, come out of its bag and fill with air. You might not make it. Be ready to deploy your reserve ASAP. And pray to God for a safe landing and another day.

2. What if the wind catches my pilot chute and rips me out of the plane?

You’d definitely have the biggest headache on the planet. That is, if you survive of course. Again, in the industry, we know to literally PUSH you out of the plane if your pilot chute is out and out of the plane. Because you can take the whole plane down if that canopy pulls you out and you hit the plane and damage the wing. Just get out and hope your canopy deploys in time to land. I haven’t heard of anyone who got ripped out of a plane coming out unharmed. It’s one of the most dangerous scenarios you can find yourself in while sitting in the plane.

3. What if I blackout and fall out? Will my Automatic Activation Device fire in time?

Well… hopefully! Every skydiver has an AAD, an automatic activation device that deploys their backup parachute, or the reserve canopy as we call it. BUT, it’ll only deploy if you’re falling faster than 72 mph and are 1000 feet off the ground. So if you fall out unconscious under 2500… hopefully you’re falling faster than enough to get it to pop. And hopefully the deployment shakes you awake so you can land. Otherwise, you might wake up to the pain of broken bones or worse.

In YOUR opinion, which is the scariest thought? Tell me in the comments.

Skydiving is one of the safest sports because of all the systems in place to prevent injuries and fatalities. Emergency procedures are practiced several times on the ground and on the plane. But we’re literally falling through the air, using gravity to our advantage so we can catch speed and using our body movements to move around in the air.

We’re dancing with death but we’ve taken all the precautions to keep from collapsing into its embrace.

I’ll never get over this idea.

That which causes you most fear, should be your conquest, until its hold on you has been eviscerated.

Read that again.

YOUR ENTIRE OBJECTIVE IN THIS LIFETIME IS TO OVERCOME ANY AND ALL OBSTACLES.

Don’t miss the mission because of the pretty girls, materialistic stuff and the money making.

Don’t get it twisted, those are challenges in and of themselves but until THAT challenge is the one in front of you, focus on your biggest fear.

And go crush it.

I believe in you.

If you fw this caption, give me a follow. Cuz that’s all you’ll be getting.

COMMENT BELOW: WHAT IS THE ONE OBSTACLE U NEED TO CONQUER RIGHT NOW?

ā€œI’m all aloneā€ was something I quietly repeated to myself all the time. Most times I lived in my imposter syndrome as if it were my home away from home. As if nobody wanted to show up for me.

I remember one day walking back home from work (no car), trekking through a foot of snow for miles while it was actively snowing, incredibly aware of how brutal the conditions were and thinking to myself… ā€œI’m all alone.ā€

And yet, two coworkers had offered me a ride home… WHY DID I SAY NO?

I’m not sure if that was my way of proving to myself that I could conquer all things (my pride) or if that was my fear of being seen as unable (perceived as weak) or… if it was my guilt because I didn’t want somebody else to go out of their way on my behalf (feeling unworthy) but somewhere along that walk, I had a heart to heart with God… and He showed me that even Jesus received help… but he did so with grace.

I realized in that moment that receiving help from others was a gift from them to me, that receiving wasn’t a burden but a blessing.

The same way that I feel good when I get to help others is the same way others feel when they get to help me and I realized in that moment that I was actually robbing them of that same feeling.

I love noticing the real and the raw. If that’s you too, you’ve found your people.

If I could go back, I’d tell myself this:

1. Faith & Trust will be your new superpower. You’ll begin to have faith that everything will work out and that your gear will keep you alive… and you’ll build self-trust in your abilities that when things go sideways, you’ll have the skill to get yourself back to the ground.

2. Be ready for your vision to be expanded like crazy. The sky is the limit. You’ll experience this with almost every conversation on the ground, every creative exit but most importantly, every time you experience that moment of surreal realization that you’re actually JUMPING out of a plane. 🤯

On purpose. For fun.

3. Your self-confidence will swell. Every time you jump out and nail the perfect exit off the hill, every time you rip a formation or join a round, every time you have that smooth standup landing… your belief that you CAN grows bigger. And it spills into every other part of your life.

Get ready, this stuff is about to be life changing.

If you’re into skydiving, scuba diving, flying, philosophy or just into COMMUNITY in general, you’re one of my people and you’ve finally found me.

In an alternate dimension, I invent a Time Machine and past me gets to meet present me (future me for them) and we have a long chat about what’s actually really important in life.

And in that chat, we go back and forth about all the problems and challenges we faced as kids, how deep the wounds were, how long it took for them to heal and how we chose to grow forward from there. We’ll talk about how those trials and tribulations were actually blessings in disguise because without them, we wouldn’t have developed our depth, empathy, resilience or grit that’s taken us so far in life.

But we’d at least give ourselves a heads up and just let ourselves know to just have faith, that everything was going to work out and that it was more important to just enjoy the ride.

Let me know in the comments which resonated with you the most!

Love you guys

We pay to play.

We pay in fear, anxiety, pain, restlessness … we pay for priceless moments not in the traditional way of money but instead in energy. In the energetic exchange between yourself and the rawness of the moment.

To have experienced something so thrilling, so satisfying that words do absolutely no justice in allowing another to relive in the awe of it… those moments are prefaced with the fear of what could go wrong, with the brain feeding the ego in a frenzy, clamoring over itself with all the potential possibilities and each’s probability… those moments are prefaced with planning and imagining the experience over and over… and the brain cannot tell what’s real and what’s imagined so in effect, we live the same moment hundreds of times before it materializes in our reality when the time calls for it to be done..

These moments can sometimes come with a physically energetic cost as well. And at times, those costs are hefty. Yes, it’s a definite reality and one we’re all familiar with. We know that the price we pay is one where Death meets us for a delicate dance and one small step out of order and Death notices and looks deep inside you to see if you’re ready to give up the rest of your time or if you’re cunning enough to fall back into step with it.

And so we dance…
