Part 2 of the Canadian Nationals 2024 continues with a small photo dump, unearthed after some freeing up some digital real estate on devices and memory cards.

📷 1 – The Maver!cks from @delta2alphadesign with the custom Redeemer W@rhe@d grinds lay at rest with the business ends, pointing towards the practice range.

📷 2 – Everything, including the kitchen sink lay awaits at the Stump of Stoopid for flinging.

📷 3 – The back-to-back set-up of the practice range mirrored on the other side of the rest area is the scoring range. This is one of my favorite range set-ups. Everyone who wants to practice can easily traverse to the scoring area in a moment.

📷 4 – When the light gets low, the fire goes up in the grotto; nestled under the canopy of trees, opens up a carved out cozy area to gather rest and trade stories over libations and music.

In June of last year, The IKTHOF Canadian Nationals 2024 were held for the second time in Manotick, Ontario, Canada.

Typically, I’m behind the lens taking pictures and making videos, however, for this year’s part 1 post, focusing only on the group shot, all other pictures were sourced from the Warr!ors Throwing Guild contributing photographers: Cheyanne Pyle, Doris Rist, Lynne.

1-4: Group Photo

5: Whips crackin’ at a viking theme cutout board, within a set distance and time constraint to unleash their fury on 5 innocent soda crackers!

In another category, participants attempt to cut as many beverage cans as possible within a set distance and time constraint.

6: Pro and amateur Archers, allowing participants to shoot from varied distances with equipment supplied or their own.

7: A most enjoyable addition to the theme of primitive arts, SPEARS! This activity is not for the faint of heart. What appears easy is seldom the same in practice.

8: 'Hawks' go long at the conventional distance for pros from 3 meters to 9 meters and beyond. Though I enjoy kn!fe throwing more, hawks at any skill level help foster good habits of proper follow-through technique.

9: Regardless of the grip; pinch, hammer, hybrid, whatever you can develop as a repeatable technique that feels more natural is the way to enjoy throwing. Accuracy comes later.

10: No-spin throwing is the one style that is by far the most challenging, no easy wins here. For as many years as I have been throwing, it's a style that always appears supernatural due to its otherworldly physics defying flight path.

11: Chuckin implements within a 20-second time limit on the speed throw. Only score lines are the entire target faces, sounds easy? With the clock ticking and a clutch of throwing steel that sneakily tries to fumble out of grip when the pressure is on, the level of control under duress is enough to stifle the calmest stoic.

12: Assist in organizing, providing amenities while also competing, there is no category more challenging than volunteering; the work that goes almost unseen while the show runs on as most participants relax between throws, volunteers get after it🖤 taken in Manotick, ON by @markusmethod

Surreptitiously filmed in 2023, this time-lapse showcases two unforgettable moments at BrokenFeather Palooza that never cease to amaze me. Firstly, after the scores are tallied and the sun dips below the horizon, people continue to throw, driven by the sheer joy and camaraderie that comes with sharing a passion for the sport.

Secondly, as the night winds down, we gather beneath the canopy tent, where the donation table overflows with generosity from participants and supporters alike, keeping the spirit of BrokenFeather Palooza alive. 🤘

DangerFest2023# Day 3 – Side games continue with the Silhouette event, based on the impalement art of throwing around a target girl, historically seen in vintage circus footage as a death defying exhibtion act to wow the audience with how close someone can come to not getting hit. This event is modified with a random pattern of orange circular targets that are to be hit in order. This breaks from the convention of following your previously thrown knife in close proximity, to having you physically reset your position in a different lateral position and height level for the next throw, not allowing you to get too comfortable.

Traditionally a set of knives would represent every target, in this case a set of 10, however, most do not have a set of 10 (unless they are using the speed knives which are in an excess of 30 - 40). Since most don’t have a set of knives in that number, one may throw their set of 3 and retrieve.

Dawning the official DangerFest2023 shirt, Chris Davy demonstrates his run at the challenge with half-spin at the 2 meters line with a set of three knives.

#DangerFest2023 Day THREE is dedicated to Side-Games. This is the final day throwers can participate in events that are outside of the conventional structure. Starting out with Speed Kn!ves, throwing whichever style you prefer at the minimum distance of 2 meters for 20 seconds.

Participants have the choice to arrange their own equipment or what is supplied in an order and fashion that allows the most convenient access to hold and throw individually. Along with Friday's Fast Draw timers, these are also supplied by Humphrey Tan, which triggers as soon as the first implement hits the target face. Only implements that stick into the log round face count within the 20 seconds, annotated by the beep built into the timers.

In this video Reel, Mac Stoughton, crowned thrower of the year, demonstrates his technique, which narrowly landed him on the podium, only edging out Humphrey by ONE point!

#DangerFest2023 Rotational Conventional Kn!fe Pro level is just over half the size of Amateurs with 21 participants. From 3 meters to 7 meters, there is little room for error with increased distances, drops, or picking up a few lower points, which separates the best from the rest. TWO of the top three podium finishers this year managed to get a master level score, which is anything above 250 points. Names and scores will be posted in the award album for DangerFest 2023…

#DangerFest2023 following the throwers meeting, Amateur Rotational knife conventional commenced with 79 participants, throwing from the 2 meter line, to the 6 meter line, 3 targets, one knife per target, for four rounds. Each buttery cotton wood log round target has a 5-point scoring system.

The first distance at 2 meters is a blade throw that rotates halfway. As each distance increases by 1 meter increments, the grip changes to the handle and is thrown from the 3 meters, resulting in a full 1-spin rotation. Grips on the knife alternative to blade for every even meter, and opposite of that from the odd meter.

From this group, EIGHT throwers managed to score over 200 points, graduating themselves to the Pro Level, which constitutes similar requirements, except the distances are 3 meter to 7 meter.
