When Freedom Feels Fragile.
Today I woke up feeling as if someone had slapped me in the face.
Now I’m on the train from Berlin to Munich. I looked around at the people. Many came to Berlin to celebrate freedom. Now they’re leaving with a heaviness no one expected to carry.
Berlin has always felt like a place of freedom. A place where so many of us could finally breathe. Today, that feeling has been shaken.
I don’t blame faith.
I blame extremism.
Whether it’s extremist Islam, extremist Judaism, extremist Christianity, or any ideology that teaches people to hate others in the name of God or absolute certainty, the result is always the same: fear, violence, and grief.
And while people argue over who is right and who is wrong, children grow up surrounded by war, trauma, and loss. That is how hatred is passed on from one generation to the next.

I don’t have the answer.

I only know that we need less hatred, less fanaticism, less war, and more humanity.
Today I keep thinking of my precious Elodie. I remember her telling me how happy she was that queer people had finally reached a point where they no longer had to be afraid—that they were becoming equal, accepted, and free.
I told her, “I’m afraid the world is moving in the wrong direction.”
Today, those words echo louder than ever.
Elodie, if you’re watching over us, please keep an eye on all of us.

A few days of art, ferries, long walks, strange beauty, beautiful people, oversized sound systems, conversations, and getting lost on purpose.

From museum walls to Williamsburg sidewalks, from daylight to a red-lit dance floor at @publicrecordsnyc a place with an incredible sound system, a fantastic plant-based restaurant, and three beautiful floors to explore 💚 where food meets music meets art
