"The classical world's most coveted retreat," celebrating 75 years of serving music and supporting musicians.

POSTS STORIES REELS

What a delightful and enlivening conversation between Bianca Stone and Mark Wunderlich on Sunday. Thank you to all who came out to listen to poetry on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. And don’t sleep on reserving seats for the next event in our IN CONVERSATION series at The Campus at Marlboro Music, featuring Bill McKibben and @timweedwriter. We loved Bill’s recent Op Ed in the New York Times, titled: “I’m Exhausted. You’re Demoralized. We Weren’t Built For A World Like This,” and the essential questions it raises. We are honored and thrilled to bring Bill, one of the great thinkers and activists of our time, to Marlboro on December 13th. Let’s gather and parse those questions together, and be together, during the dark season of the year. Link to tickets in bio.

Violinist Geneva Lewis, violist Emma Wernig, and cellist Jay Campbell are enjoying a Marlboro residency this week, intensively exploring one of the great works in the musical canon: Bach’s Goldberg Variations, arranged for string trio.

In the midst of their creative retreat on our Vermont campus, Geneva, Emma, and Jay shared the results of their work with our local audience yesterday afternoon in an epic performance in Ragle Hall.

Thanks to all who came out for this residency concert and for the inspiring literary conversation, with poets Bianca Stone and Mark Wunderlich, that followed. Join us for the next events in these series on December 13 when Marlboro pianist Ayane Nakajima presents a solo recital and author, activist, and educator Bill McKibben shares the In Conversation stage with novelist Tim Weed. "Finding the right instrument is often crucial to a musician’s success."

This fascinating @nytimes article, featuring Marlboro past participant Inmo Yang, highlights the importance of programs that help artists access exceptional instruments. https://buff.ly/zte4AvW

At Marlboro, Rudolf Serkin created the Francesco von Mendelssohn Fund in 1989 after von Mendelssohn (a relative of the composers) donated his Stradivarius cello. Realizing that rapidly-increasing costs were making it very difficult for young artists to purchase the high-quality instruments they needed as their careers developed, Mr. Serkin used proceeds from the sale of the cello to provide low-interest loans benefitting many deserving young players. Since then, the fund has provided over $9 million in loans, enabling more than 250 Marlboro artists to acquire new instruments.

Exhibiting strong extremes of energy, dynamics and expression, Dean's third string quartet was written for the Doric Quartet, whose former first violinist, Alex Redington, led this ensemble through four weeks of musical exploration during our 2025 summer season.
