On Thanksgiving Eve, EcoAthletes is thankful to welcome Marley Salveter, pro soccer player in France by way of Oregon, as our newest Champion…and to do so on her birthday! Marley’s upbringing in Southern Oregon shaped her climate comeback journey.

“Growing up on the edge of the Mt. Hood National Forest and in such a beautiful natural environment shaped my identity,” Marley offered. “But my true passion for climate action really shone through during my master’s program in journalism and media studies at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). For my thesis, I produced an audio documentary on the historical and climate-driven changes affecting Lake Mead and its surrounding national park. That project allowed me to interview historians, forensic investigators, national park staff, water policy experts, and everyday lake goers. Through those conversations, I realized the power of storytelling to drive climate action.”

Now, Marley feels empowered to combine her platform as a pro soccer player with her passion for storytelling.

“I’ve now played in what seems like every type of climate — the rainforests of Oregon, the Mojave Desert, the tropics of Miami, and now the French Alps,” she pointed out. “No matter the climate, players and fans experience extreme weather. By producing for Environmental Professionals Radio and now as an EcoAthletes Champion, I have the forums through which to tell powerful climate action stories. And I can’t wait to do broaden my reach through the EcoAthletes platform!”

We can’t wait to help you do so, Marley. But in the meantime, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
