New book alert!

And no, it’s not your cat’s or your besties cat’s memoir… I love Richard Osman and I think he surpassed himself with We Solve Murders, so I’m extremely excited to dive into this one! Can someone please just alert my ADHD gremlin that it needs to go on vacation so I can focus long enough to read more than 2 chapters or any Dr. Seuss, thanks! @misterosman #thursdaymurderclub #richardosman #books #newbookrelease #bookstagram by @marplemurders

I happened upon this book by chance and thought I’d give it a go. Needless to say, I’m glad I did. The book centers on five individuals waiting for the train to London; from the beginning, the reader knows one of those five will die by train. Before finding out who and what happened leading up to the death, the reader is given a deeper insight into each of the five commuters. The characters are flawed, unlikable, with the author demonstrating how complex and layered humans are. The author skillfully reminds the reader how easy it is to make assumptions about someone without knowing their experiences that molded them into who they are in that moment. By the end of the book, you learn who died, what led up to/caused the victim to die. It’s not a long book, but I wouldn’t call it a fast read either. Sometimes reading a character’s dark and/or traumatic secrets requires time and space to thoughtfully process in relation to the bigger picture (the story itself). All in all, I rate this a 4.25 stars #books #niche #booksbooksbooks #bookstagram by @marplemurders

In today’s review, Part of Liars, where a dead body happens upon a sixteenth birthday party. The cast of characters are: the dad (Ethan), wife number 1 (Kim), wife number 2 (Dani), the 16 year old daughter (Sophie), the new baby, the nanny (Órlaith), the 16 year olds friend (Mikayla). The story bounces around multiple POV’s and is set and built up around Sophie’s extravagant sixteenth birthday. Tensions and secrets seem to bubble to the surface and by the end of the night when everyone is around the cake, someone falls from the upstairs balcony near the pool as secrets begin to be revealed. The book has short chapters and focuses on the female perspective, postpartum psychosis, privilege, and mental health. There’s enough wit and twists that I definitely stayed engaged and didn’t see all the twists coming, but the general story seems to be one commonly told. Overall, I’d rate the book a 4.25 stars because the author adds a haunted house element that isn’t, in my opinion, necessary given everything that’s going on with the storyline.#drama #book #bookstagram by @marplemurders
