Coincidence of a lifetime.

After a 12-hour drive from Mumbai to Goa, me, dada and Ann were starving, so I asked Ann to find a place for dinner, and she came across a restaurant called Miri. We avoid eating in Panjim because of the crowds and tourists there, but for some reason we still decided to go.

While we were eating, a middle aged man started singing on the other side of the restaurant. We applauded after every song and really enjoyed his performance. After sometime, we ended up being the only people left there. At some point, dada said, “I’ve seen him somewhere before. I just can’t remember where.” I looked at the singer, but nothing clicked.

After dinner, we stayed back for awhile, talking over a few drinks. By then, he had finished his set. A few minutes later, he walked up to our table and called me by my name.

I looked again and suddenly realized who he was.

It was my first drum teacher from 12 years ago.

I was completely shocked. For the longest time, I’ve been telling dada that I’d love to meet him again someday. And somehow, after all these years, we crossed paths completely by chance.

We spoke for a long time. He still remembered the 10 year old kid I was back then. Seeing him again made me incredibly happy.

Samson sir, thank you for making me fall in love with music and drums. A huge part of who I am today started in your class.
