When Denson (@dens_watchvault) and WK (@chrono.path) cooked up Next Vintage, the goal wasn’t to just sell watches. It was also to take our experience as enthusiasts/collectors, and turn that into a dealership that we ourselves would gladly buy from for our own personal collections. And hopefully while we’re at it, help raise scholarship, diligence and transparency in this market segment too. In whatever small way. Thanks to all of you, we turn 2 years old this month! It’s been just the two of us (with assistance from Denson’s wife LG on crucial, unseen back office work) and it’s time to strengthen our capability and capacity for the future! Stoked to announce that Marshall (@marsh_kai_) joins the team this month! Growth is less about forcing scale but more about the right fit for what we set out to be. Many of you in the watch community already know Marshall. His journey from lawyer to multifaceted watch industry professional speaks to a deep passion that began in 2013 and that has not waned. Marshall adds some kick-ass experience to Next Vintage. This includes working with an indie watchmaker, co-founding a watch blog, contributing to watch publications, interviewing collectors/brand CEOs/watchmakers/designers, and working at a globally renowned high-horology Kuala Lumpur dealer on research, writing, photography and client liaison. His heart lies in neovintage watches that sit at that intriguing crossroads of rich history, modern production, timeless aesthetics and classic proportions. As well as “soul”, or as he puts it: “It’s not just about owning a beautiful object, but about being a custodian of what has lived a previous life and being a part of where its story goes next. History, backstories, even patina and wear, all come down to people and the lives they’ve enriched. That human element fascinates me.” With Marshall on board, you can expect more frequent drops from us as we stagger “Marshall Drops” and “WK Drops”. More great finds, more stories, a different style of photography, but all with the same diligence, depth of research and transparency you’ve come to expect from us. Over the years, I’ve always found the old LV Tambour pieces to be rather uninspiring—boring, even. They just lacked that spark. But with the recent rise of @lafabriquedutemps, we’re finally starting to see a shift. High watchmaking is beginning to take shape within Louis Vuitton, adding much-needed depth and credibility to the brand’s horological ambitions. @vncntskl and I were recently invited by @michellelym to the Louis Vuitton boutique at Pavilion to experience and photograph the new Tambour Taiko pieces up close. Needless to say, we were genuinely astonished by how stunning they are in person. I’ll let the photos do the talking.
