M’éloigner tranquillement de ces bêtes monumentales… être complément éblouie…me chier dessus…tout ça en même temps…

A weekend well spent in the mountains.

Being a weekender means getting used to squeezing adventures into a 2-day window.
Lucky for us, adventures are plentiful here in Northern BC.

I’d definitely add this one to my bucket list if I were you:

📍Babine Mountains Provincial Park, Smithers, BC>>

Bikepacking up the Silver King Basin Trail to Joe Lorsa Cabin, where we chose to set up our tent since we had our dog with us. We topped it off with a short but beautiful hike on the Hyland Pass trail, plus the first snow of the season.

What a mystical place <333

Chasing Autumn, Catching Winter: Bikepacking Hyland Pass

We set out into the Babine Mountains expecting crisp fall colors and clear alpine views, but the mountains had other plans. Mother Nature delivered the first winter storm of the season right on cue, turning a routine weekend trip into a full-on epic.

Starting out, the sky looked promising. We loaded up the bikes, strapped on the gear, and hit the trail toward Hyland Pass with Billy and Marso leading ahead, completely in their element.

I clearly still need to figure out a way to travel light with these two… My rig was basically a freight train.

Higher up, the season shifted fast. Rusted mining cars sat tucked in the brush under fresh powder while jagged, ghost-looking peaks disappeared into low clouds. We fired up the Jetboil by an alpine lake for hot meals with frozen fingers.

It’s pretty special getting to sleep under the season’s first snow, discovering another incredible corner of our rugged backyard, and stumbling across lingering pieces of history along the way.

Pretty sure my rear suspenaion is still holding a personal grudge against me.

Cooool

SOLODVENTURE DIARIES
ep. 04 > trail running Maroon Mnt

15 km of trail running and intense power hiking through the alpine, with views of the neighbouring ridge and a magical mossy forest.
Even though I’m only heading out for a few hours, I always pack the essentials to stay safe when I’m solo in the backcountry.

Here’s what’s in my @thenorthface_trail running vest:

HYDRATION & FUEL
>2 x 500 ml water bottles: 1 water & 1 sports drink (tested the @maple_mc2 products: YUM)
>2 gels @krononutrition + a few gummies
>2 apples & a little bag of nuts (better too many snacks than not enough)
> @katadyn_group water filter bottle:
Katadyn BeFree AC 1L Microfilter

SAFETY
>Bear spray
> Birdie alarm
>First-aid kit
> @garmin inReach (mine isn’t pictured, it had fallen next to the car… oopsiii)
>Pocket knife
>Fully charged & LOCKED headlamp!!
>Fully charged phone + watch
>Offline navigation apps: I mostly use Trailforks and Outmap
>Basic knowledge of the trail I’m heading out on

CLOTHING
>Extra merino long-sleeve (even when it’s hot, you never know)
>Windbreaker / rain jacket
>Rain-resistant pants (same thing, even if the forecast is good, in the mountains, you never know)
>Bandana (also doubles as a towel after an alpine lake dip)
>Extra cap
>Sunglasses that aren’t too dark (so I can still see in the tree line)
>my favorite minimalist trail running shoes for technical terrains @nike

ACCESSORIES & OTHER
>Stick sunscreen @shiseido Clear Sunscreen Stick SPF 50+
>Lipsilllllll
>Running poles : I love my @leki.trailrunning ones !!
>AirPods for when the climb gets REALLY damn painful (but never both at the same time because… bears and cougars)
>Small foldable padded sit pad

And that’s pretty much it!
Let me know what I forgot ?

Be safe out there! XX

ps: I muted myself singing for your own good but the song I sing to keep the bears away is this post’ song ;)
