First fall FO! Ember designed by @kaffefassettstudio for @rowanyarns 🍂

Feels appropriate to finish and weave in ends on a cozy sweater vest during the autumn equinox! This vest uses a combo of intarsia and stranded colorwork to create a spectacular pattern that's actually quite easy to execute. Though, the WS of the work did look a little crazy for a while (like Kaffe, I don't believe in bobbins), once ends are eventually woven in, my efforts were deeply rewarded. Also: this project was very fast for me! The challenge of stranded + intarsia was slightly tempered by beefy 5.5 mm needles. I used 2 shades of Rowan Kid Classic (PR/gifted) as the central MC and CC, and then a boatload of Felted Tweed odds and ends for the crazy little square CCs. I foresee this piece getting a LOT of mileage this fall! by @martdept

EDIT: Application is now closed! Thank you to all who applied! 💓

Testers wanted for the Oakshot Bandana! My desire to explore modular knitting with four-color mitered squares turned into, well, a lot of eight-color mitered squares! And a beautiful, scrappy accessory project for intarsia-lovers. I am planning on running this test knit from September 18th through November 6th, so if you'd like to apply, the application and more info are in my bio :) by @martdept

Never, and I mean never, underestimate the power of a good color story! I was so impressed with my testers' color choices, I thought I'd share a little free-associative ideation. This is what I saw in their color palettes—and if the Sawtooth Jacket is in your queue, maybe it will help you narrow down your own color selection! by @martdept

THE SAWTOOTH JACKET IS LIVE!!🌻🍃

From idea to finished pattern, this design took a full 8 months. It has truly been a journey learning the ins and outs of grading, pattern writing, and managing a test knit. I'm so excited to be able to bring this pattern to you after months of hard work and anticipation!

The Sawtooth Jacket is an oversized cardigan inspired by heritage quilt motifs. It is knit from the bottom up in pieces using mosaic stitch, and features a modified drop shoulder, sloped shoulder shaping, I-cord edge, and toggle closures. It's graded in 5 sizes to fit a 30" through 62" bust/chest measurement. If you are very in between sizes, I gently recommend sizing down.

A HUGE thank you to my amazing team of test knitters, and incredible tech editor Nadya @lemonknit_dk 💓 I could not have done it without you!! by @martdept

She is my biggest project that I’ve knitted. I originally planned to use 8 colors as the pattern suggests but it came out too festive for my liking (the other 2 colors are dark/light red). So I settled down with green and brown 💚🤎

So happy with the result after 3 months of knitting. It was a lot of knitting, sewing and weaving ends but it was really fun!

Not quite ready to let summer go, but the Sawtooth Jacket is doing a pretty good job of softening the blow. 🍂

A cozy, hefty mosaic knit in rustic Icelandic wool feels like a pretty convincing argument for cooler weather. Fun to knit in sections, easy to transport, and watching the pattern build made it very hard to put down — and now I’m almost ready for jacket season. Almost.

My Sawtooth Jacket test knit is complete! 🤎 Such a fun and lovely pattern. Definitely a commitment, but oh so worth the time and effort.

The worsted weight all-over mosaic makes for a nice and hefty fabric - perfect for a jacket! So excited for the weather to cool down so I can wear this thing all the time.

Pattern: #sawtoothjacket by @martdept coming soon!

Pattern development photodump because what initially deemed a chill, casual, between-projects type of project has become yet another beast mode project 🔷🔸🔷

It's crazy how much life happens when we're not knitting. I can look at this little shawl and see multiple trips, a birthday, and some binge watches it's accompanied me for. And also: household chores, paint jobs, movie viewings and nights out I've ignored it in favor of. 2026 has been a bit of a "slow" year for me, knitting-wise. My current knitting self forms an interesting contrast with my past knitting self — in 2024 or 2023, there was no moment in which I was sitting down where I was not knitting. Though, for the past year or so, I have been enjoying moments away from my knitting. Being able to fully absorb a movie, for example. Reading a book. Or even just looking out a train window as it goes over the bridge. There are "boring" moments, it turns out, in which I'd rather just be bored. I've always been curious how others balance their knitting life with their real life. Have you experienced many seasons in your knitting? If so, what were they like? How long did they last?

Anyway, I've been thinking of naming this shawlette the Oakshot Bandana :) This size is big enough to generously cover the shoulders, but I'd also like to write a pattern for a headscarf-size bandana as well. It's knitted in 14(?) Jamieson's of Shetland Spindrift, but could be knitted in just 8. I'm currently writing up the pattern, and will hopefully post a formal tester call next week! Let me know what you think 💙🧡💓 by @martdept

Mark your calendars! 🗓️

The Sawtooth Jacket pattern will be released on Monday, September 7th!

The test knit is wrapping up on August 31st, and I am planning on giving myself a week to apply edits and review feedback. It has been truly amazing working with testers (as a designer) for the first time, and having the privilege of receiving their perspectives. I'm so confident this experience has improved the pattern for future knitters.

The pattern will be available in 5 sizes. The sample I am wearing is a size 2, worn with 11" / 28 cm of positive ease.

Size - Body Measurement - Finished Garment Circumference:

1 - 30" / 76 cm - 40" / 102 cm
2 - 38" / 97 cm - 48" / 122 cm
3 - 46" / 117 cm - 56" / 142 cm
4 - 54" / 137 cm - 64" / 163 cm
5 - 62" / 157 cm - 72" / 183 cm

The sample is knitted in Höner och Eir Nutiden (held double), an unspun yarn. Unspun or light twist worsted/aran weight yarns are recommended, such as Ístex Plötulopi or Ístex Léttlopi. Blown yarns, such as Drops Air, are another excellent option.

Estimated yardage/meterage for sizes 1 (2) 3 (4) 5:

MC (Choose 4): 282y (422y) 451y (522y) 649y / 258m (386m) 412m (477m) 593m per color
CC (Choose 4): 198y (282y) 310y (353y) 437y / 181m (258m) 283m (323m) 400m per color by @martdept
