Last of my new collections are these miniature painting jewels!! This idea has been rattling around my brain for years, so I don’t know why it took me so long to do this. A marriage of my great loves, painting and metalsmithing. These are the tiniest paintings I’ve ever made, but I love how the crystal magnifies them. As usual, they are inspired by the Sonoran desert and nature. It was exactly 10 years ago this October that I became saguaro national parks first artist in residence. It felt like a dream to be able to live in the park for a month. I need to make another post about my experience but suffice to say it was life-changing. Scroll through to see a couple pictures from my 2016 residency. These little paintings are painted with acrylic and sealed with resin, and set in Sterling silver. So excited to show you these in person TOMORROW @donnasdressshop by @marthabarfaart

My second capsule collection I’m debuting Friday further explores tying metalsmithing to my painting inspirations. I sculpted and painted these resin sealed skulls that are set in sterling and copper. Skulls are a recurring theme and fascination for me. I was the weird little kid obsessed with the primitive man skulls at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. As an arty goth teen I was always drawing and wearing skulls. Now, I revere them as a symbol of the cycle of life, and a connection to my Mexican ancestors I’ve never known. They are painted with bright colors to remind us to experience beauty and fun while we are here. by @marthabarfaart

Yay!!! So excited to debut the first part of my new collections! Inspired by the subjects I love to paint, but in sterling silver, copper, and brass. One week from today!!! Soooo excited to show you all the new things I’ve been throwing my weird little heart into for the past few months. I’ve been exploring with mixed metals, incorporating my favorite subjects to draw, lots of eyeballs, and even some miniature hand painted and sculpted pieces. Hope to see you! by @marthabarfaart

Been exploring more projects that tie my two creative loves together. Painting/drawing and metalworking. Made this embossed copper skunk mirror for my lovely friend @witch_in_the_kitchen_ @punkie_skunkie
I love the process of drawing an image and then bringing it to life with super sharp scissors and embossing tools. I’ve been working on some new mirror designs I can’t wait to debut at my trunk show Oct. 16th @donnasdressshop !!! Stay tuned!! by @marthabarfaart

11 years ago today I met my favorite person in the world. Yes, person. When we found each other she was a matted mess that knew she deserves doggie salon visits and so much more. Summer is my season and special because of Bowie’s gotcha day, but winter is bearable because I get extra snuggles. It’s been a bit since I’ve painted Bowie’s portrait and even longer since I’ve painted myself. After capturing a few selfies one brisk winter sunset, I knew I needed to paint us sharing my favorite vintage leopard print coat. Every time I look at this painting I’m transported back to cuddling my beautiful sweet Bowie💖 by @marthabarfaart

Five new sterling silver and gemstone rings for summer adventures! The big bad mama jama ring is made with turquoise from an old timey rock shop in Tucson, Arizona and looks great while holding a frosty margarita🌶️ Smaller rings are set with a teeny fossilized trilobite, a labradorite with rainbow flash, and quartz and tigers eyes studs which would add a touch of bad ass to a stack.
