Getting back into violin as an adult has been very humbling. I’m learning that my technique is sometimes less than desirable and now I get the reason why my orchestra teacher wanted everyone to practice more. I hope to continue unlearning bad vibrato habits and figure out why my bow wants to bounce as I’m playing!!! Pls stop bow!!! by @marthashobbies

My patented seam allowance marker. For some reason I find a seam gauge clunky, so I drew the 5/8” on a dollar bill and use the edge of the dollar to match up with the edge of the fabric. I draw dots and connect them! I know there is certainly a better way to do this!!! But this is what works lol. by @marthashobbies

I finished sewing my first garment!!! Pattern: #diydrawstringskirt by @_diydaisy. Maybe it might be a little too big on me, maybe the hem is wonky, but I know I made the little kid who wanted to be a fashion designer when she grew up proud. by @marthashobbies

I made a mistake when cutting: I did not label any of my pieces and I’ve suffered for it! I’ve decided to scrap this fabric because I have seam ripped one too many times for my sanity and remake the pants in muslin instead, so I can understand that I *do* in fact need to label the front and back and right and wrong. Also, note to self: pick a fabric with a more distinctive right and wrong side, because this was all the same to me! by @marthashobbies

Saw a trick on TikTok to add a pad of post its where your seam allowance is to get a straight row of stitches. It definitely has helped immensely. Someday I’ll be brave enough to take the “training wheels” off. In other pant news, I realized I sewed the right sides together of one pant leg, so after I spent all day pressing the seams and pinking them, I had to seam rip it all. I hope they’ll make nice pajama pants at least! by @marthashobbies

Is this an average looking buttonhole? Yes. But after purchasing a secondhand #Pfaff, I found out that there seems to be some issues with switching stitches and the buttonhole stitches worked about 1 time out of 100. Finally borrowed a friends Singer and I got it to work!! AULIO pants by Named Clothing in progress! by @marthashobbies

I played violin from 8-18 and this was the year I decided I missed enough to do something about it. Every Thursday I take lessons at @sarahjanesmusicschool and then almost every Thursday at Parkway Pizza next door I’ll treat myself to their 8 pm happy hour. by @marthashobbies

I took a sewing class at @open.studio.sewing and we made these little pouches! I’m now researching sewing machines and have several books on hold at the library about sewing your own clothes. If you don’t fall hard into a hobby, is it even a hobby? 🫣 by @marthashobbies
