God Bless This Mess, is an appeal to a higher power to recognize the messy, contentious, often violent spasms our country is going through. The truck feels lonely, out of control and reckless. This message uses a common refrain that mimics the kitschy sentiment found on signage hanging in kitchens of midwestern homes, to not judge the messiness of a home well lived in. As we embark on this scary and dangerous time in our country, how do we make it through? I’m not totally convinced that snarky irony will save us from impending fascism, but humor and an appeal to hope along with real concrete political action just might. As we put in the hard work we need to lighten our spirits with goofy juxtapositions of text and images that create new meanings. Let me know what you think. by @martin_mazorra

My last day @martin_mazorra print shop with @cannonballpress we made a two color version of both the “Love is love is Love” and the “Freedom to Love” prints with dark brown image and day glow orange text. Thank to @alicemazorra for the great video. I had such a blast. by @martin_mazorra

“Shasta Daisy” 19” x 13” reduction woodcut letterpress printed with metal and wooden type on pink paper.

Shasta daisies are a short-lived perennials . Coming back year after year before they need to be divided to maintain their vigor.

This print is part of a group show Over & Over & Over: A Printmaking Exhibition @hollerhousebristol curated by Sage Perrott @haypeep. It is an honor to show work with so many artists I admire. I will be at the opening this Friday, July 11th from 6-8 pm.

I’ve a high drawn and carved woodgrain ultralight MDF diet. When I need synthetic-cubist cleanser, it is a CDX wire brush flush. I found brushing cross grain removes the soft wood fastest. Finishing with a vigorous grain wise round to dispel the tool marks.
What are your preferred methods to raise the grain on your woodblocks?
