“Time is precious, and it plays no favorites. Be intentional with life, coach your kids teams, take your wife on dates, work hard, make everyday count. Gay and I lived in Madison, Connecticut in 1990, the year we founded MDL. Grayson was three, Elle one, and Avery had not yet joined the Dingman team. We had moved to Connecticut from Dallas to launch the startup Cole Haan accessories in 1985, which we ultimately sold to Nike. It is such a privilege and blessing, to have all three of the children involved full time in the business. Yes, challenging at times, but overall, glorious family time. Here we are in 2022, thirty two short years later. Somehow, miraculously, with hard work, dedication, and a desire to serve the Lord, we find ourselves in the blessed position of being a market leader. Be assured that we are highly appreciative for the loyalty of our supporters, and will not rest on past successes. Our goal is simple, make the finest luxury leathergoods and continue to improve.

The Royal Llewellin Setter has a long and rich history dating back to the early 17th century, with lineage to King James I of England and Louis the XVIII of France. Martin has personally traveled to research and confirm the origins of Royal Llewellin Setters, tracing their pure bloodlines to the original English architects of the breed. These regal and rare pups are unbelievably affectionate with small children, docile with other family pets, and best friends with every new acquaintance.

Martin has been an advocate of the outdoor sporting life, since childhood, alongside his grandfather who raised and hunted Walker foxhounds. As a hobby breeder, his goals are to produce the finest, original, Purebred Llewellin Setters, and preserve the Royal heritage of these beautiful and extremely unique dogs.

Currently, Martin and his family enjoy the companionship of Henry, Ivy, and the latest addition, Henrietta. Martin has a limited number of Royal Llewellin puppies available each year, from the same original bloodlines, reserved exclusively for families who truly love, appreciate, and live a lifestyle, compatible with this spectacular breed.

The Laverack Hunting Boot is named in tribute to Edward Laverack, one of the great architects of the modern English Setter and an important figure in the sporting-dog tradition. Beginning in the 1820s, Laverack devoted decades to carefully selecting and breeding setters for exceptional quality, establishing a celebrated strain that became foundational to the breed. His work would later provide Richard Purcell Llewellin with important breeding stock from which Llewellin developed his renowned field setters—creating a direct historical thread to the sporting lineage we preserve today through the Martin Dingman Royal Llewellin Setter.

Created in commemoration of that legacy, the Laverack is a true upland field boot built with the same respect for purpose, performance, and enduring quality. Crafted from premium leathers with waterproof construction, a double-stitched moc toe, performance laces, lightweight Extralight outsole, full glove-leather lining, and a heel-to-toe athletic footbed, it is designed for long days afield without sacrificing refinement. Like the sporting dogs that inspired its name, the Laverack is handsome by tradition, purposeful by design, and made to perform in the field.

It was 1988 when I found myself driving all over Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas, visiting Brown Shoe Company facilities that were closing their doors and moving production to the far east. We dug through dusty old facilities looking for sewing machines and various other leather manufacturing equipment that appeared to have a few years left in them. What an education that was. We wrestled with those machines several years, tweaking, turning, tuning, and pulling our hair out, as we were never able to get them to a place where we considered them dependable. As the years passed, we began adding the finest Italian leather manufacturing equipment made. Today we are blessed and extremely thankful to have the highest quality, Italian and German leather crafting equipment, at every station in the MD Workshop. The results of staying with it, and never deviating from our quality standards, are the finest men’s belts made in America. While the quality and age of our equipment is imperative, the real secret is the number of awesome people who have been with the MD Leathergoods family forever. The leather crafting skills of our team are incomparable. They are the very best. As the second generation of Dingmans have a firm grip on the reins, the future is bright, and the best days are yet to come.
Shown is the new Royal Sporting belt, crafted (L-R) from distressed American Bison, Italian camouflage finish saddle leather, and South American Water Buffalo. They are all completed with our exclusive Royal Sporting plaque buckle, with an antique silver finish.
