HEY THERE.
Just going to leave this here for a while: a pinned post to help you get to know me, if you didn't already.
.
I am Martin. I am a writer. I write books full time but before that I was a copywriter and before that I worked in the film biz in that London. But my heart lay at the coast.
.
So I moved.
.
I once appeared in a BBC TV show called 'One Man and His Campervan' but it got cancelled after one series. (Note: I didn't get cancelled, the show did)
.
I am married to @drlizzykay a woman who loves all the things I do and is a gardener and botanist.
.
We got married last year, a couple of weeks before cycling to Portugal with our surfboards.
.
I absolutely love my job and am so grateful that people like my books, especially the environmental ones.
My publishers @bloomsburypublishing and @walkerbooksuk are great.
.
I founded a charity, The 2 Minute Foundation, after years of beach cleaning and running the #2minutebeachclean campaign with some wonderful people. Check them out at @2minutehq

I am a lifelong camper and a campervanner since my 20s. I have owned a number of campervans over the years including 3 x VW T25s, a VW Bay, a Renault 5 Van, Citroen AK400, Crafter and now a Ducato.
.
I love cycling but the thing that keeps me going is surfing. I am not as agile as I used to be but I still have so much fun in the water, whatever it's like. If it's small I take out a bellyboard.
.
I learnt to snowboard in 2019 but haven't been much of late because it isn't snowing and I bust up my knee in 2023. I haven't been on a skateboard since, which is a thing of regret.
.
I have two amazing daughters @maggie.dorey and @charliecostumez
They are about to hit the big wide world having graduated this year with degrees in Fine Art and Costume Design. Proud dad!!! Wooop!!! Can't wait to see what they do.
.
I live in a little house in Bude in Cornwall and work out of an office at @rooted.ocean HQ with some very nice, creative people.
Life is OK.
But I do get angry at racism, homophobia, litter, wastefulness and intolerance.
.
If you pass me on a blind bend when I am cycling I will shout at you.
.

Happy Birthday Take The Slow Road!!!
It's publication day for Take The Slow Road: England and Wales (2nd edition).
Another book I am very proud of.
This edition has been updated with new pics, up to date information and several new routes including the @snowdonia360
And the @south.west.660 as well as The Cotswolds, The Lincoln Wolds and an amazing tour through the Peaks for outdoor swimmers.

Thanks to @scotttaylor4772 for driving his beautiful splitty for the cover. And to everyone else who got this project off the ground, especially @drlizzykay @jennyclark_yeah @multon.elizabeth and all the crew at @bloomsburyoutdoors @bloomsburypublishing and at @pfdagents my amazing agent. Since I started writing Take the Slow Road I have visited hundreds of campsites all over the UK and Europe. My favourites are always those in amazing locations, where there is lots to do and see nearby.
This one, the @candmclub site at Stonehaven, has a lot going for it. Straight out of the sea to your pitch. Can't be bad.
.
The second edition of Take The Slow Road: England and Wales comes out soon. In it you'll a selection of great campsites paired with amazing driving routes and lots of things to do. This edition now includes the @snowdonia360 and the @south.west.660
.
So if you are hitting the road in your own, or in a @quirkycampers rental soon, stick a copy in the glove box.
.
It's whopper, full of information, stories from the road and inspiring pictures. And if you need it, it can double as a levelling wedge. by @martindorey

50m of heated saltwater bliss.
The only problem is that it closed for the season last week. So we had to swim in the sea, which was parky.
Stonehaven, near Aberdeen.
Right next door to the amazing @candmclub club site.
Just a 10 minute walk from the old harbour, pubs and restaurants. Handy!!! by @martindorey
