🏡BOOK REVIEW 205🏡: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 this was a really cute read from @martinettewrites as we are taken through a journey of fourteen years following Lainey and Jannnes. From their hometown meeting in New Zealand, these two drift apart and then find their way back to each other as they grow up.

The emotional angst is that even though they continue to find their way back to one another, their lives just don’t seem to have the room for what could have been for each of them. The unspoken feelings speak volumes through this read as we see the connection they have and the intimacy built between Lainey and Jannes, and you really root for them as a reader.

I totally understood the pull each of the character had towards one another as it was love, and the love they have for one another is something that doesn’t go away - for each other, the other one is home and just something so special that it won’t be forgotten. It was the author’s intention to write this as a very slow burn romance and I can understand why that was. There is something very true in having this story written and the last line of home always being Jannnes for Lainey was just a fantastic ending.

Lainey and Jannes meet when they’re young, and from that moment there is a connection neither quite manages to leave behind.

Over the next fourteen years, they grow up, move away and build separate lives, yet somehow their paths keep crossing.

There were SO many moments when I wanted to shake these two and tell them to just be together already!

Every time it seemed like their moment had finally arrived, life seemed to get in the way.

Fourteen years is possibly testing the limits of my slow-burn tolerance but I was still completely invested in Lainey and Jannes and loved watching their relationship change as they grew older.

Their connection feels like something much bigger than romance. Even during the years they’re apart, there’s always this sense that the other person represents comfort and home.

Frustrating? Absolutely.

But also emotional and incredibly satisfying when all those years of longing finally come together. 🤍

I feel like a lot of people missed the point I was trying to make with this story so it's heartening when someone *gets it*

I'd rather write a slightly controversial story than play it safe, even if it means a lot of negative reviews 😅

Happy Publication Day 🥳

Hometown by Martinette Williams is a love story that is 14 years in the making, I was so caught up in it and have enjoyed it very much.
Their story is set in New Zealand and begins when Lainey (14) meets Jannes (19) through their friends circle. They immediately click with each other and as the story develops we slowly watch their connection grow. We see their lives develop, sometimes with each other present, but not always, however, they are forever in each other's thought's and constantly testing their bond.
They each grow in their careers, family lives, are sometimes in and out of relationships, but not with each other. Their timings never seem to align.
There is a varying cast of characters that are all relevant in this slow burn relationship.
The story is very sweet as Lainey and Jannes are clearly very important to each other. However, they can both be quite frustrating in the sense that I just wanted them to realise they belong together.
The writing is beatiful and I really enjoyed this slowburn yearning, watching their connection grow, develop and eventually watch their tender love story unfold. Even with all the bumps in the road, I was always rooting for them to share their feeling for each other.
I recommend this book if you enjoy a slow burn romance thats builds from a teenage friendship, to learning everything about that person, the good and the bad and then realising thats they're not just your very best friend, but the love of your life too that you cannot live without.

Happy Publication Day to my second baby 🐥

I conceived this story when I was still deep in the edits of my debut novel Everything She Wanted.
It's completely different and I wanted to tell a story full of longing and missed chances. I think I achieved this. 🤣 These characters really have to work for their happy ending!!

For all those who have read Hometown — thank you!
For those who understood what I was trying to do — an even bigger thank you!

I know this book isn't for everyone and that's okay. I hope those who don't love it won't write off all my future work. And I hope those who do love it will tell me (and their friends) about it.

Hometown isn't for everyone. I'm realising more and more about how divisive it is.
If you don't like a torturous slow burn, then this isn't the book for you 😊🩷
