After keeping us waiting 12 days past his due date, our sweet boy finally made his arrival — and he was worth every second of anticipation and long labour.

Becoming parents has already been more beautiful, transformative and joyful than we ever could have imagined. We are overwhelmed with love and endlessly grateful to God for the incredible gift of our son.

The day two became one. The best day of our lives.

Years ago, early on in our dating relationship we talked about getting married. We agreed on a handful of things that were requirements for us both, including:

- personal vows
- open bar
- by the lake, or in a place that holds deep meaning to us both
- good food & lots of it
- intimate/organic photography
- personally curated music
- dog in ceremony

We hit all of the major things, besides dog in ceremony, because at the time we didn’t know that our future pup would be addicted to splashing in the water and be completely inconsolable with the lake in her sight.

So much has changed since our relationship started, and our daily life looks a lot different than it did when we made the first wedding list together. I am so proud of us for sticking to the shared dream though, despite all of the setbacks and uncertainty.

I know, after all, we are the lucky ones.

Happy birthday to the person who makes life worth living. The one who can light up a room just by walking into it. If you’re lucky enough to meet her you know what I am talking about. Two years ago the unimaginable happened.

Unimaginable because when you hear of people facing a situation that differs so much from your own reality, you can’t even imagine what life would look and feel like. Until you’re in it, and then you notice that life continues all around you.

We’ve seen other people celebrate their accident anniversaries by saying “happy alive day” - as if to shift the focus from the loss of the use of their limbs to the fact that they’re still alive and breathing.

Today and every day since March 30, 2023 I thank God you are alive. Though the battle continues and it is certainly uphill, there is truly no one else I can think of facing that hill head-on like you do.

You are badass, Isaiah. You are resilient beyond measure. I have front row seats to every day acts of commitment and perseverance. And because of you, I dig deeper, I run farther and I lift heavier.

P.S. This one goes out to the doctor who looked us in the eyes and said, “you will never be able to walk in leg braces, give up on physio and get a job”.

He was mistaken. Not only do you have a full time job in enforcement but you’re walking with and without leg braces now. Talk about doubling down on doubt - this is the kind of mindset you have.

I can’t wait to see where the next 2 years takes you, takes us.

Yes, a million times & in a million life times. Let’s make forever a real barn burner 🤍

We ran/pushed a rugged way into my favourite place on Earth today. He got down on one knee (and one cheek), asked me for forever, I blacked out and muttered yes between breathless ugly cries. A scenario I’ve thought about many times as people do, never did I expect to be so encompassed in a moment this steeped in love and intention. The ring custom made and more sentimental and thoughtful than I could have imagined (my only wish for a ring). Blessed. The greatest is love. by @martini1519
