Yesterday I hiked the Hochobir in southern Carinthia – a somewhat remote but idyllically beautiful mountain. The trail is moderately difficult, with an elevation gain of just over 1,000 meters and a highest point of about 2,200 meters. From the summit, you get great views of Klagenfurt, Globasnitz, Bleiburg, and deep into the Julian Alps. Highly recommended for a sunny summer day. by @martinuros

Joel’s Vienna stands out as a masterclass in blending classical sophistication with pop sensibility. The song's structure is a unique mix of storytelling and melodic complexity, with its flowing, orchestral arrangement that builds gradually in intensity. The piano, as expected from Joel, drives the track, but what makes it particularly striking is the use of strings and woodwinds, which lend an air of elegance. The most unusual and standout moment, however, comes with the accordion solo. The accordion, typically not a mainstream pop instrument, adds a layer of unexpected warmth and depth, playing a melancholic, almost nostalgic melody that contrasts beautifully with the rest of the song’s orchestral texture. The fusion of piano, strings, and this unconventional solo gives Vienna an emotional richness and timeless feel. taken in Vienna - Austria by @martinuros

Respect, originally written and recorded by Otis Redding, became an anthem of empowerment when Aretha Franklin released her version in 1967. Franklin transformed the song into a powerful statement about independence and equality. The lyrics, along with the spelling out of “R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” express self-confidence and insist on mutual dignity in relationships.

Aretha's voice is the central force of the song. Her vocal delivery is strong, soulful, and full of emotional intensity. She uses powerful gospel-influenced phrasing, dynamic shifts, and call-and-response sections with her backing singers to create an atmosphere of strength and assertion. Her tone moves effortlessly between warmth and raw power, embodying both vulnerability and authority.

Overall, Respect is not only a soul classic but also a cultural milestone, symbolizing the demand for equality and self-worth—driven by Franklin’s unmatched vocal performance. taken in Galata Tower Istanbul by @martinuros

Epitaph is a haunting and intricate prog-rock ballad, blending symphonic elements with the band’s trademark experimental sound. The song’s lyrics, written by lyricist Peter Sinfield, explore themes of existential despair, uncertainty, and the collapse of ideals, set against a backdrop of dark, introspective imagery. Musically, it features lush mellotron sounds, complex time signatures, and a deep, brooding atmosphere, with the tension building throughout. The standout moment is Robert Fripp’s soaring guitar solo, which cuts through the somber mood with both precision and raw emotion. The emotional weight of the song, paired with its groundbreaking instrumental arrangements, makes "Epitaph" a defining piece in the early progressive rock movement. taken in Galata Tower Istanbul by @martinuros

Comfortably Numb is a layered, atmospheric rock ballad that combines sweeping orchestral arrangements with iconic guitar solos. The song's lyrics explore themes of isolation, detachment, and the numbness that comes from emotional or physical distance. Musically, it begins with a soft, haunting synthesizer melody, gradually building with the distinctive guitar solos of David Gilmour, which enhance the song's emotional depth. The contrast between the introspective lyrics and the expansive musical landscape creates a timeless, otherworldly feel, making "Comfortably Numb" a standout track in both Pink Floyd's discography and rock history. taken in Galata Tower Istanbul by @martinuros

In a Manner of Speaking features a minimalist, bossa nova-inspired arrangement, combining smooth guitar strums with gentle percussion and a hauntingly soft vocal delivery. The song's lyrics reflect on the complexity of communication and the misunderstandings that arise from it, with a subtle, introspective tone. The arrangement builds gradually, with its soothing rhythm and sparse instrumentation allowing the lyrics to take center stage. Overall, the track blends a sense of emotional distance with delicate musicality, creating a contemplative and captivating atmosphere. taken in Galata Tower Istanbul by @martinuros
