Next weekend will be a blast. Not only is it @djpolyester ‘s 40th birthday, but the Mummies are playing Saturday night and Thee Toe tags are playing Sunday opening for Throw Rag. Stopped by Thalia Surf the other day and noticed they had hung the Gremmie Skateboards collab they did, maybe 15 years ago. This model is the Plank, which was a nod to the days when kids would slap roller skate wheels on the bottom of an oak dresser drawer. The Plank was 1 of 5 original styles and they were all made by hand. Later, 4 other styles were added, as well as other collabs, most notably the @captainfinco board which sold out too fast for me. @skibbatron was the owner/creator of @gremmieskateboards and many of the graphics used were @davehansonart. The creativity that went into these boards was amazing. Thank you @thaliasurf for bringing back a flood of memories from an extremely fun time! I thought I’d share a health update. On Friday May 1st I was rushed to the hospital and into surgery to repair a perforated ulcer in my stomach. I was in ICU for 5 days. I had lost a lot of blood and the bacteria that exists in your stomach had spread around my body. Lot’s of strong antibiotics and morphine got me through and I am now home recovering. We were supposed to leave for Hawaii next Monday so I’m bummed we had to cancel. I had a post op appointment with my surgeon today and he said everything looked good, but it’s going to take awhile to get back to normal. Until then, lots of rest and protein! by @martyhalter

This was the first “luxury” item that my wife and I bought after we got married. Mid century cool but also practical since we both smoked at the time. The crack in it is from one of our many moves and I did my best to glue it back together. Our first apartment was full of hand me down from relatives or stuff we bought at second hand stores. We lived in Columbus Ohio at the time and being big mid century modern lovers, we were in the right place. Columbus really expanded out into the suburbs in the 50’s and 60’s so Goodwill and VOA was full of great stuff on a weekly basis. We bought and sold so much of it over time but we’ve kept a roomful of our favorites that will never sell. I was looking through an old surf magazine yesterday and saw this FuelTV ad from Roy Gonzales. I had to stop and study all the detail. Roy’s work is iconic in Southern California surf culture. I also included one of my favorite designs from the late 1980’s. #roygonzalez #surfart #surfartist

I finally broke down and upgraded my Surfer Toons #2 after finding one that was in great condition for a reasonable price. With summer coming, it’s always fun to delve into early 1960’s comics and how what was to come got started. I love everything @rickgriffindesigns did up until his tragic death in 1991. My favorites will always be the tales of Murphy and his pals. With fewer summers ahead of me than past, I will continue to embrace each one with the excitement of a grom out of school for the summer. #rickgriffin #surfertoons #californiasummer #surfing by @martyhalter

Look at that hoodlum. First day of high school in 1978 Rocking the Johnny Ramone haircut. I took a lot of 💩for being a Ramones fan but met some new friends as a result. Every small town had a small group of kids that were into punk, which led to ridicule and sometimes a beating from the jocks. I was friends with the jocks because I played football but I still got “how can you listen to that 💩. Looking at my eyes in this photo I was probably by the warehouse across from the school getting high with my buddies.
