for most of my childhood and teenage years I was a competitive figure skater, nationally and internationally. I trained from 5 am before school and would resume after school until 5pm, which is when I’d have ballet jazz contemporary classes, and sometimes even weight training. All to ensure I’d get into the Olympics. That was my dream as a kid. But I never made it tho. Something about the financial burden and the racism and eating disorders and never being a real kid always seemed to taint the love I had to perform, on ice especially. I quit ice skating exactly 10 years ago. But every time I lace up my heels now, ten years later, i get the same exact feeling of stepping into that rink - love.

Every figure skater knows the kind of burnout we experience from the demands of this sport, and that is exactly why @alysaxliu story carries so much weight. To leave and to come back and to fall in love again on your own terms and beat the odds. The grief of no longer being a skater is so personal, and it’s mine alone. No words can amount to it. But all I can say is that after stepping back on ice for the first time in ten years today, I know the lil skater in me never ever left, she just wears heels now 🫶🏾 by @marudaanimummy

proof of life and a culmination of 5 weeks of returning back to training w @cliconservatory

Pouring my heart, soul, and lower back into these @missandyej steps. Beyond grateful for how you pour into your students. A dream come true, training under you was one of the main reasons I even applied to CLI. Now living it is even more surreal. I can’t get enough of it. Thank you @teddyforance for investing in our dreams. 🧿🫶🏾⭐️

What happens when a Tamil choreographer and artist
join forces in Chennai?

Last weekend I hosted the ultimate Tamil Baddies link up in my choreo class with @ranjaniramadoss making a special guest appearance to perform ‘Kaidhi’ with us.

Releasing ourselves from the shackles of the adakkamaana Tamizh ponnu and reclaiming our agency over our desires, KAIDHI emerges as not only a rejection, but a redefining of who we are. The chennai heels community is a testament to this becoming. Bringing these two creative worlds together was an absolute honor. We are so unstoppable when we move in unison with such a purpose. And this is just the beginning of what’s to come 🧿💋🐆
