I’m living life right now, man, and this what imma do ‘til it’s over, ‘til it’s over…
but it’s far from over.

Alhamdulillah, I made it. For a very, very long while I didn’t think that I could. My first four exam scores at Brown were B, C, and two F’s. After my first semester at Brown ended, I seriously considered transferring because I didn’t think I had what it took to succeed in such a competitive school where people who grew up with a lot more than me were abundant.

I told myself then that I would give myself one more semester to figure it out, and if I didn’t, then I would transfer from Brown. I challenged myself harder than I ever had before that spring by taking five courses. I managed to find my learning style and ended the semester with five A’s, which was five more A’s than I got collectively during my freshman fall.

COVID robbed me of a year and a half of college normality, but it didn’t stop me from getting an internship at the Stanford School of Medicine and the Barrow Neurological Institute. It didn’t stop me from cultivating friendships that will be maintained post-college. It didn’t stop me from being an excellent Teaching Assistant in two courses. It didn’t stop me from being the President of the Brown Lecture Board, the position of my dreams since Hasan Minhaj graced this campus with his presence, where I brought and befriended John Green and Jennette McCurdy.

I made neuroscience my safe haven, and it accepted me from day 1. Not only did I succeed in every NEUR class I ever took, I also managed to sneak in a calm two full years of research as well. I practically perfected the brain, through and through.
