What a journey!

Entering freshman year I would have never believed you if you told me I’d graduate from the University of Colorado with a bachelors in philosophy. But boy did God have a plan for me!

It’s crazy to look back on the past four years and see the amount of growth that has taken place since freshman year. It’s almost hard to believe that freshman year was only four years ago. How could someone change so much in only four years!

The answer is simple. Growth doesn’t occur when things are easy, fun and enjoyable, instead true growth is the product of working through the hardest of life’s circumstances while maintaining a positive attitude and without giving up. Unfortunately we all go through hardships in college, whether self inflicted or externally caused. I for one, self inflicted a vast amount of hardship on my life by simply being young and dumb. In order to understand the value of friendship I had to loose some, in order to understand that God truly is the author of my life I had to fail in my own strength, in order for me to appreciate the opportunity to learn I had to experience nearly failing out of college my freshman year first semester. Today I leave college with genuine true friendships, the acknowledgment that God has the supreme authority over my life, and shockingly a 3.8 GPA. It was going through the lows with perseverance and hope that got me where I am today, and though it’s not the rode I wish I had taken, it is the rode that ended up creating a version of me that is now confident. You see, the winners are not the ones who brush over pain by neglecting its presence, the winners are the ones who take the opportunity to feel the lowest of the lows so that they can learn and grow from the experience it provides.

So if anything, remember this: when things get hard, and they will, remind yourself to take the opportunity to learn, seek the positive, and don’t give up. Feel all the emotions that life provides because we only know what joy is due to having lived through pain. taken in Boulder, Colorado by @mary__huffman

How blessed am I to have been selected as one of the 58 finalists for the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders! Despite taking 3 years off of dance, I am so thankful and blessed to have made it to the end, and while this year was a no, I hope that what I’ve learned over the past 3 months would prepare me for round 2 next year!
