100 mini moon jars. Each unfired and holding the potential to dissolve back to the earth. In traditional eastern medicine fullness and emptiness are part of a continuous ebb and flow throughout the body. We disperse in an attempt to reduce excess or fullness while also hoping to nourish and support emptiness or deficiency. Can this concept be applied to the earth too?
All clay used in the project was gathered from the Dartmoor area. Swipe along to see the finished piece ‘Return to Source’ @makesouthwest where visitors are invited to take a mini moon jars away or deposit them into the central vessel. At the end of the exhibition the remaining jars will be returned to the earth. Empty vessels now filled with the intention that accumulating less will become a form of abundance.🤞 by @marydohnal

Time to think about leaving the cave to appreciate the beginnings of spring. I’ve been learning about the symbolic language of the unconscious with @chantalpowell. A reminder that the seeds of creativity often need a dark place to germinate. In the spirit of Imbolc here is a little poem by @maryoliverofficial called The Uses of Sorrow-
Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness.

It’s been nearly seven years since I first wandered up this path one evening in September 2017. The GR221 is a network of paths in the Tramuntana Mountains called the Ruta de la Pedra en Sec (The Dry Stone Route) stretching along the northwest coast of Mallorca.
Inspired by #nansheperd and #maryoliver I jotted down my thoughts while I walked. I will post some of these ‘path notes’ over then next few months to hopefully inspire more walking and more creativity. Message me if you would like to organise a group or individual walking trip. September is a beautiful time to start.

Ozzie and I have been walking the same path for nearly four years. It starts with a steep 40 minute climb then wiggles back down through a canyon and past seasonal waterfalls and pools. There are 150km of paths through these mountains but this circular route has captivated me. Having spent 45 years looping around Hampstead Heath I wanted to know this place intimately too. Now we have moved a little bit further away and I panicked for a moment when I woke up and the mountain wasn’t right beside me. I felt uprooted and floaty like I had left someone I loved without saying goodbye. But we still come here every couple of days and everything is just as it was, completely familiar and continuously changing. #GR221 #Sóller #mymountaintherapy by @marydohnal

My dad would be 80 this year. We are moving house this week and I’ve carried this box of his letters around since he died in 1994. They are from his friends and family back in Prague, written between 1967 and 1970. My dad came to London to do a PhD in film at the Slade. He planned to go home but the Russian invasion in 1968 meant that he was unable to get back until after the collapse of communism in 1989.
I’ve never translated them, I’m not sure why? Maybe I feel odd reading his letters without asking.
Moving house gives you an opportunity to chose what stuff comes with you from your past. We have a box in a storage unit in Neasden labelled nostalgia; cards, letters, bits of pottery, teeth not collected by the tooth fairy.
My dad had very few possessions when he died, a Jaques Staunton chess set( there is an interesting story about that), a camera and these letters. Will people still have boxes of letters in the future? I hope so 💌 #letterstomirek #morningthoughts by @marydohnal

It’s my birthday today. I spotted this shell twinkling in the sand while swimming and appreciated how lucky I am to live by the sea. We had lunch at the beach and walked in the forest at dusk and the moon glowed through the trees. A part of me would like to be dancing wildly to Prince in a dark sweaty club in London but right now this is where I am 💜 taken in Sóller, Mallorca, Balaeric Islands, Spain by @marydohnal
