BEHIND THE SEAMS - The collaboration is still available on the Fabric Workshop Museum website! Grab yours before it’s gone! “I’ve known Mary for many years and have admired her work ever since I first saw it in the early ’90s. In 1995, during her residency at The Fabric Workshop, she created her Serape design, inspired by traditional Mexican weavings. It quickly became an instant classic and remains synonymous with the institution. We’re thrilled to collaborate with Mary to help raise funds for The Fabric Workshop, and we knew right away that we wanted to bring Serape to our Metro Tote. We love the way the print comes to life on the bag.” - Monica, cofounder & codesigner by @maryheilmannstudio

We partnered with our friend and contemporary abstract artist, Mary Heilmann, to bring to life this limited-edition Medium Metro Tote. Known for her colorful exploration of painting and printmaking, it features one of her original Serape designs first printed as yardage during her residency at The Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM) in 1995. @maryheilmannstudio @fabricworkshop 100% of the proceeds from its sale will benefit FWM, an internationally acclaimed contemporary art museum in Philadelphia devoted both to the creation and presentation of innovative works of art.* by @maryheilmannstudio

50 years ago today “The Vent Series” opened at Holly Solomon Gallery in Soho. The exhibition was an important moment for Mary - her first show with the new and influential dealer, Holly, the debut of her shift to paintings on traditional supports and the first time she revealed work where, as she has said “I was thinking about structures. Because I was a sculptor, I thought about the whole canvas, the stretcher bars, the sides.” Many were made using her fingers or squeegees to scrape the paint away and they depicted domestic, architectural references: blinds, doors, air vents, shutters, mirrors. As Teresa Kittler recently wrote about “Little 9 x 9”, a painting that was first seen in the Vent show, “The disarming reference to finger painting suggests something unsophisticated and trivial, and yet with its spirited irregularity, Heilmann offers a powerful dismantling of the grid.”* 1. “The First Vent”, 1972.
