War is @marymaker_43’s earliest memory — she spent much of her early life in one of the world’s largest refugee camps. Now a Goodwill Ambassador for @refugees, she is raising her voice on behalf of those she left behind, helping refugee students land scholarships to top universities.

“I want to be seen. I want to be heard. I want to be acknowledged. I want to be at the table, making decisions and feeling like a part of something. Are you able to see us? Are you? Are you able to go beyond the news and really understand that this is someone like you?”

After her family fled to safety, Mary built a new life of opportunity through education and hard work – finding her feet, and her voice, on stage. On our podcast ‘Awake At Night’, she shares how she overcame a childhood marred by death and conflict, and how theater became both her refuge and her path forward.

Today we’re celebrating Mary Maker and her 3 year anniversary with CAMPUSPEAK!

Mary brings a presence to the stage that is both grounding and transformative, inviting students into conversations around identity, resilience, and what it means to truly belong. Her story doesn’t just inspire, it challenges perspectives and opens the door for deeper understanding and connection.

What a gift it was to be in LA at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, advocating for @CouldYou? and our mission to end period poverty.
It was equally powerful to collaborate with @tiffanyhaddish and @daphnaziman bringing awareness to sex trafficking here in LA and around the world.
Being included on this platform was an honor, and carrying advocacy with me every step of the way made the experience even more meaningful. The room of 1000 was deeply receptive, and witnessing the care and urgency people brought to curbing and ending trafficking truly warmed my heart.

To all young people — wherever you are: Be bold, be curious, and never underestimate the impact you can have.

My advice to you: Don’t be discouraged by uncertainty and challenges, always remember that even small contributions can have a big impact.
