My sweet Jaz,
Words can’t begin to explain this feeling. I’ve never known heartbreak like this before. You were truly one in a million. The kind of friend I always prayed to have in my corner. You were always the first person there when I needed you and the last person to ask for anything in return.

I used to tell you all the time that I didn’t know how I ever went so long without you in my life. Now I’m faced with the impossible reality of learning how to live without you again.

It doesn’t feel fair that someone with such a bright, beautiful future had it taken away so soon. No amount of time will ever make that make sense to me. You had a way of making everyone laugh, and no one ever had to wonder what you were thinking. You were unapologetically yourself, and my world will forever be more dim without you in it.

I will thank God every day that I got to experience a friendship as special as ours. This still doesn’t feel real, and I don’t think it will for a very long time. Part of me keeps expecting to hear you putting in my door code and walking into my apartment without warning. I keep thinking I’ll get a text next Tuesday asking if we can go get City Cafe chicken and dumplings, or asking if my mom can make whatever you’re craving that week while we nap with Polly.

I’ll always miss sharing Denny Dogs in Bryant-Denny and getting to work a shift with you. The ordinary moments that never felt important at the time somehow became the memories I wish I could relive just one more time.

You understood me in a way very few people ever have. Thank you for every laugh, every late-night conversation, every memory, and every moment you showed up for me without hesitation. I hope you knew how deeply you were loved.

I hope you’ll always be looking after me, your “Mustard.” I will miss you every single day.
Hug the people you love and keep them close. Nothing is promised, and that’s a lesson I will carry with me forever. I guess I’ll start drinking rumple and grimace bombs for you baby.
