What do you feel when you dance, especially in freestyle/battle moments?
Mascha: When I’m in a session with people I feel comfortable with, I always feel very free when I’m dancing and I like expressing myself to the music.
But when I have the feeling that I have to prove something, I sometimes get scared and am no longer free at all but rather stiff. But I’m working on it :)

How do you imagine your ideal
freestyle scene ?
Mascha: I would like to see a freestyle scene that is more open. More open to maybe more reserved characters. More open to queer people and women. I can now speak more for the hip hop scene and unfortunately there are still quite conservative views there, I would generally like to see an understanding that a diverse scene and by that I mean a scene with diverse views, ideas and styles would simply take us further, otherwise we stagnate.

What role models do you have?
Mascha: In life, my mom is my role model. She emigrated with me alone to a foreign country when I was 27 and it was a hard time, but now we live well here with lots of lovely and warm people in our lives. Dancing-wise I am a huge @oomkhlifa fangirl, if you want to open a fan club hit me up :)

Is there anything else you would like to share?
Mascha: Yes! If you’re having a hard time with your dance, keep going anyway. Your freestyle belongs only to you and that’s freedom that not everyone gets to experience. by @mashaausrussia
