Last week I turned 32!

Every year I take a selfie to document what I look like, and this year I’m sharing a collection from throughout the year 😅 Isn’t a selfie the best and easiest way to capture this transition?

Anyway, thanks to each of you for being part of my year (and life!) — I love you all ❤️ by @mashaerm

Two days in Somerset, England 💖
⠀
My first time in the English countryside, celebrating the wedding of my friends @pelevinaen and Matt in Winscombe (a short drive from Cheddar 🧀)
⠀
Drove there from London, looking at the moon and the fields; spent two days in an old country house where we all had a warm celebration and a sunny dinner with a view; stayed nearby in a room with chickens in the garden; swam in the pool until late every night and then walked back past the church, with so many stars 🌠

Barcelona on film 🎞️ which one’s your favorite?
⠀
First time in Barcelona — walking around, looking at the flowers, meeting friends, visiting the Joan Miró Foundation, seeing the finished Sagrada Família, and [sadly] having a bank card stolen :D

Am I too late for the 2016 trend? 😅
⠀
This was a very special time for me – the year that made moving between cities a part of my life, and defined so many things for the next 10 years.
⠀
I felt so drawn to Berlin – and I’d spend 2 weeks there and 2 weeks in Moscow. 2.5-hour flights. Airplane sandwiches with “sun-dried tomatoes”. Packing and unpacking.
⠀
At that time, I was still studying in Moscow and working on my thesis, writing down stories from Berlin.
⠀
In June, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism – and just thinking about getting to study there still makes me excited.
⠀
In the summer, I spent a night in the Sahara Desert, and seeing sand dunes was something I’d been dreaming of for so long. The silhouettes of camels under the moonlight. Soft sand. A long road with almost Martian landscapes. Staying in a hotel near the Atlas Mountains with a bright blue pool.
⠀
Then, Christmas in New York. Catching a rainbow on my luggage at the airport in Chicago on December 30. New Year’s in Moscow.
⠀
2016 was all about some kind of transit – connecting and disconnecting, changing places and the ways I felt about many things. I often come back to that time – it feels like what started then is still going. Except now the transit doesn’t feel temporary or uncertain. It feels like the only way to be :) by @mashaerm

I met Kevin at @unkompress about a year ago. One of Berlin’s first listening bars, tucked in Kreuzberg. Kevin had been thinking about this idea for 15 years—a bar built around an amazing sound system and a deep record collection. Inspired by Japanese jazz kissas, but he’d been thinking about it long before he knew they existed.
