🐾❤️ AAMU ISN’T JUST MY ALMA MATER… IT’S PART OF MY STORY. ❤️🐾

My connection to Alabama A&M University started long before I ever filled out a college application.

I attended AAMU Daycare, and my Godmother, Mrs. Hall, was over the Maroonettes, so wherever she was, I was somewhere close by. 😂 I spent countless hours at practices, surrounded by the Maroonettes and the sounds of the band under the direction of Dr. Wesley.

One memory I’ll always cherish is being about 8 years old, dancing with the band to “Hey Little Momma.” 🐾

Back then, I was just a little girl enjoying the music and soaking up everything around me. I couldn’t have known that years later, I would walk that same campus as an AAMU student and eventually walk across the stage as an AAMU graduate. 🎓

Now, coming back to The Hill brings all of those memories together—the daycare, the practices, the band, my Godmother, that little girl dancing, my college years, and finally earning my degree.

That’s why AAMU will always mean more to me than a university. It feels like HOME.

From that little girl dancing to “Hey Little Momma” to the woman proudly saying…

Today while I was studying, I heard a knock at the door. 🚪🌹

I opened it, and there was my adult child, Mickey Campbell.

She handed me a bouquet of roses and said, “Here you go… bye!” Then she turned around, did her little slow-fast walk down the stairs, waving her hands the whole time. 😂

Of course I asked, “Why did you bring me these?”

She said, “You don’t like flowers in your vase?”

I said, “Yes, I do!”

She smiled and said, “Well, there you go… bye!” 💛

Y’all… I LOVE THAT LADY.

Mickey has truly been heaven-sent.

For almost six years after church, she would ask me, “Can I keep Mark?” Every single time, I would say no. It wasn’t because I didn’t need the help. It was because Mark is nonverbal, and my daddy was the only person I fully trusted to care for him.

Then one day, I finally needed help, and I called Mickey.

From that day on… she’s been there.

If you see me, chances are you’ll see Mickey and Mark right beside me everywhere.

I thank God for providing my ram in the bush. A person who has consistently shown unconditional love, patience, and genuine care for both Mark and me.

She’s so much more than a church member.

She’s my adult best friend.
She’s Mark’s Auntie/Granny.
My thrift store partner.
My biggest supporter.
My family by choice.

Some people come into your life for a season. Others become part of your heart forever.

Mickey Campbell, thank you for loving us the way you do. Your kindness never goes unnoticed, and your love has made a difference in our lives in more ways than you’ll ever know.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is say YES to something new.

Today I accomplished my first flip at Light On Yoga Fitness, Aerial Yoga! 🙌🏽💜 I never imagined I’d be upside down doing this, but here we are!

A huge THANK YOU to Kourtney Green and Myzz B Caudle for getting me out of the house. Sometimes we get so caught up in work, caregiving, and life that we forget to pour into ourselves. Today was a reminder that it’s okay to laugh, try something different, and enjoy the moment.

Here’s to stepping outside of our comfort zones, celebrating the little victories, and remembering that self-care isn’t selfish, it’s necessary.

I can’t wait to see what I accomplish next! 💪🏽✨

The look Mark gave me had me questioning every dance move! 🤣 I guess I interrupted his regularly scheduled program.
