On my recent trip to #Mongolia, I expressed to @djsarasa, that as touring artists, we get to see a special side of the places we visit to perform. There are arguably more traditional love songs dedicated to horses than to romantic partners. Horses are viewed as spiritual companions rather than just livestock. 30 to 40% of Mongolians practice a traditional nomadic pastoral life, relying on the “Five Snouts” (horses, sheep, goats, cattle/yaks, and camels). There is a minimalism and zero waste way of life associated with living on the move - Meat and milk provide food, bones are carved into toys and instruments, hides and wool provide clothing and insulation and even the dried dung (argal) is used for fuel. Mongolian nomadic culture is deeply intertwined with Animism and Shamanism, instilling a belief that everything in nature possesses a living spirit (ezed). Rivers, mountains and trees are viewed as living entities. Eagle hunting is practiced in the far western corner of Mongolia, in the Bayan-Ölgii Province among the peaks of the Altai Mountains. The tradition is of the semi-nomadic Kazakh minority in the region. The bond between a berkutchi (eagle hunting practitioner) and their eagle is not one of master and servant, but a deeply respectful, temporary partnership built on mutual trust. Hunters exclusively choose female Golden Eagles. Female eagles grow significantly larger (up to 12 kilograms), and inherently more aggressive than males, making them powerful enough to bring down corsac foxes, hares, and even young wolves. Music inside a ger mirrors the landscapes of the wide open steppe. Because a ger is round, it acts as a natural amplifier, creating the perfect environment for traditional instruments like taken in Nomadic Mongolia by @masiaone
