alongside the ‘Bones, Egun, n’ Heirlooms’ vanity portal, I paired each tintype with a soundscape formed from the interviews. here are excerpts of Raja’Nee Redmond, Kush Thompson, & Jailel Barr interviews speaking to their origins & the folks they venerated in the images. deep gratitude to all the folks present when we spoke & the family reunion formed by speaking!! (gotta hear the soundscapes to find out ✨).

The full soundscapes can be found in my link-tree tag under “Portals”. special thank you to the curators: @blackbottomarchives @earthseed_black_family_archive

display: tintypes, heirlooms & jewelry from @_asha_grant ‘s gram ❣️ besos to @bookiegenius for your flexibility in teaching the art of letter press for the doilies!

✨’Bones, Egún, n’ Heirlooms’ will be presented in Detroit at the @earthseed_black_family_archive “Roots & Routes” interactive exhibition at Newlab in Michigan!

This project is a portal activated through tintype capture, heirlooms, and recalling memories. The display will include mini soundscapes formed from the voices of those interviewed venerating their loved ones and speaking to the routes their people traveled to arrive in the present day.

I’ll be sharing this work alongside projects from my Earthseed family cohort members Asha, Ebony, & Queen!
Alongside the exhibition @saturns.glass & I will be on our dream team kick with a photo pop up. Slide through if you’re in Detroit Nov 8th!!!

Special thanks to @jwhol for this experience.
