we lift our beloved sister
Lynore Eneid Routte
to the heavens
from whence she came
to where we shall meet,
if we are so blessed,
again.

Planet Rock: Mission II – The Great Escape was both an artistic and institutional milestone.

It demonstrated the museum’s ability to host complex live performance integrating science visualization, music, and narrative while nurturing partnerships with the NYC DOE and leading contemporary artists.

The mission deepened MASK’s and AMNH’s shared commitment to art as a catalyst for scientific imagination—proving that by letting artists “do the art,” the science will follow naturally.

On Saturday @brooklynmuseum

“Celebrate the creativity and voices of young New Yorkers through visual art and live performance, inspired by artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and jazz musician Max Roach. Basquiat and Roach spent their lives pursuing justice through paint and sound. This Juneteenth weekend celebration draws inspiration from We Insist! (Max Roach’s Freedom Now Suite) and Basquiat’s enduring artistic legacy.
Featuring work developed through The Basquiat Project and The Max Roach Music Project, the afternoon highlights how young people are carrying forward the legacies of these two Brooklyn legends through their own perspectives, expression, and creativity.“

12–3 pm The Basquiat Project
View more than 100 artworks created by New York City youths through The Basquiat Project, an educational initiative inspired by the artist’s life and work.
1–3 pm The Max Roach Music Project
Enjoy music by New York City student ensembles presented through The Max Roach Music Project, an educational initiative honoring the musician.

Thank you @joeclaratsaifoundation

“Working across a host of mediums—painting, sculpture, film, collage, performance, music—Biggers positions himself as an artistic intermediary. Appropriating a vast array of historical forms and symbols, he strips them of their reliable context, casting them instead amidst alternative, intentionally ambiguous narratives.

For The Gift of Tongues, Biggers transforms the gallery into a playhouse of sorts, reconfiguring the white cube of the gallery into an intricate labyrinth of strategically placed curtains and false walls. Amidst this carefully constructed backdrop, discreet vignettes emerge, revealing themselves in careful sightlines as viewers find their way through the space. Populated with new works from his Codex, Chimera, and Shimmer series, these scenes bring together disparate bodies of work to reveal an elaborate web of historic reckoning and narrative possibility.”

Go see “Greg Tate Horus” in St.Nicholas Park before it’s gone in October. Leave something at the altar.
Thank you Brett, for the memories and the reminder.
