thank you listening to my voice this past year. in this activity, it is easy to disregard neurodivergent ideas, because we don’t think, act, or talk in a way some view as “digestible”. in fact, i am often reminded that my performance displaying different aspects of my neurodivergence was uncomfortable to watch. so i thank you all for not ignoring what i had to say. for embracing the fact that autism isn’t something to be scared or afraid of, but rather, something that can be loved.

to every kid in this activity who is like me. who goes to tournaments terrified, playing mental minesweeper in order to not be “weird” and “brash” and to fit in. to every kid who has had to prepare two performances. one in their rounds. and one to make sure they were deemed socially acceptable by their peers. you are worth every single second of opportunity you are given. your voice is just as important as everyone else’s. your perspective is needed just as much as everyone else’s. and you don’t need to hide a single thing about yourself to be loved. because you are enough, and you are worth it.
