Every Mason is familiar with the three symbolic pillars of the craft: Wisdom, Strength, and Beauty. #Strength gives us the power to act, while #Wisdom provides the judgment and direction to ensure that power is used well. #Beauty is the natural result of a life lived in balance, guided by self-discipline, purpose, and good character. The ancient architect Vitruvius expressed a similar principle, teaching that great architecture is founded upon firmness, utility, and beauty. Beauty was never merely decoration—it emerged from sound design and harmonious proportion. The #MasonicLodge preserves this timeless lesson through its symbolic pillars: the Ionic for Wisdom, the Doric for Strength, and the Corinthian for Beauty. Each builds upon the one before it, reminding us that true beauty is rooted in wisdom and supported by strength. Perhaps that is why Beauty comes last. It is the visible expression of wisdom rightly applied and strength rightly directed. Whether in architecture, in Masonry, or in life itself, beauty is often the clearest sign that the foundation beneath it is sound. #MasonsofCA #MasonicPillars #CaliforniaFreemason by @masonsofca
Meet Ara Malayan, the newly installed Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of California. A Mason of 26 years at Santa Monica‑Palisades No. 307 and Ararat No. 848, Deputy Grand Master Ara Maloyan has had a front‑row seat to the Craft’s evolution—not just in growth, but also in depth. In this video profile, Maloyan reflects on the future of Freemasonry in California: a future he believes must be rooted in unity, harmony, and a renewed commitment to Masonic education and spiritual development. #MasonsofCA by @masonsofca
When California became a state in 1850, #LosAngeles was little more than a small Mexican pueblo of about 1,600 residents. In the decades that followed, the city transformed into a thriving American metropolis, shaped by people who believed in what their community could become. Among them were Freemasons, men who saw a city in transition not simply as a place to live, but as a community to build. They opened schools, established businesses, cared for neighbors, and helped create the institutions that would define Los Angeles for generations. One of those institutions was Los Angeles No. 42 (@LodgeLA42), formally established in 1853. Its members included merchants, civic leaders, and community builders who brought their ideas, experience, and vision into the lodge and carried those values back into the growing city around them. Though the lodge remained relatively small, the connections forged within its walls became part of the larger story of Los Angeles' remarkable evolution. Read more at our profile bio or visit: freemason.org/first-builders #MasonsofCA #CaliforniaFreemason by @masonsofca
What an amazing weekend with our baraderon of the Grand Lodge of Iran in Exile! Got a super cool tour of the State Capitol (and a photo of where lightning once stuck the building), and a weekend of great fellowship! Concluded the weekend with a reception for MW Ara with the Santa Clara Valley Officers’ Association! #universalfreemasonry #masonsofcalifornia by @masonsofca
Last week, Masons of East San Diego No. 561 partnered with @StreetsOfHopeSD in downtown San Diego for an outreach event, providing meals, support, and compassion to neighbors in need. Wearing the Masonic Builders hats received at this month's Annual Communication, they proudly represented the values of Masonry through meaningful acts of service. Long before #Hollywood became the entertainment capital of the world, one Mason helped shape the very streets and institutions that made its rise possible. Known as the “Father of Hollywood,” Charles E. Toberman, a member and Past Master of @HollywoodLodge_No.355, wasn't a movie star, director, or producer. Instead, he was the visionary developer behind many of Hollywood’s most iconic destinations, including the Egyptian Theatre, Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Hollywood Bowl, and the Hollywood Masonic Temple. Over an 80-year career in real estate development and banking, Toberman, worked alongside fellow Masons, developers, and industry leaders to transform Hollywood from an agricultural town into a global cultural landmark. Read more at our profile bio link or visit: freemason.org/mason-who-built-hollywood #MasonsofCA #CaliforniaFreemason by @masonsofca
