Troisième et dernier épisode de notre projet avec CADE Media.

Cette fois, ça y est : les vélos sont montés, réglés.

Avant de les envoyer en Angleterre pour rejoindre l’équipe de CADE, on avait envie de les emmener sur nos routes, autour de Nice. Un même segment, répété deux fois par Lucie et Robin sur chaque vélo, histoire de comparer les sensations et de partager leurs impressions à chaud.

Aujourd’hui, les vélos sont déjà chez CADE, et on attend évidemment leur vidéo avec beaucoup d’impatience. Ce sera probablement l’épisode le plus attendu du projet : celui où ils découvriront et testeront les quatre vélos avec leur regard, leurs sensations et leur manière bien à eux de raconter le vélo.

En attendant, c’est notre dernière vidéo qui est en ligne.

Notre façon à nous aussi de raconter cette expérience : brut, sans chichi, comme nous.

The third and final episode of our project with CADE Media.

This time, it’s official : the bikes are built, dialled in, and ready to go.

Before shipping them off to England to join the CADE team, we wanted to take them out one last time on our home roads around Nice. Lucie and Robin each rode the same segment twice on every bike, comparing the feel of each one and sharing their first impressions while everything was still fresh.

The bikes have now arrived at CADE HQ, and we’re really looking forward to seeing their video. It will probably be the most anticipated episode of the whole project : watching them discover and test all four bikes through their own perspective, with their own riding style and their unique way of telling cycling stories.

In the meantime, our final video is now live.

Our own way of telling this story too: raw, no frills, just us.

Un vélo, ce n’est pas seulement une fiche technique ou un tableau de poids. C’est aussi une envie, une sensation, une histoire qu’on se raconte un peu. Alors, il est temps d’aller mater le deuxième épisode de notre projet avec CADE Media.

Cette fois, les quatre kits cadres sont arrivés au Rifugio, fraîchement peints et prêts à être regardés de près.

Aluminium, carbone, acier et titane : Quatre matériaux, une seule géométrie, et toujours la même idée en tête, essayer de comprendre ce que la matière change vraiment quand tout le reste reste identique.

A bike isn’t just a spec sheet or a weight chart. It’s also a feeling, a desire, a story we tell ourselves. So it’s time to check out the second episode of our project with CADE Media.

This time, all four framesets have arrived at Rifugio, freshly painted and ready for a closer look.

Aluminum, carbon, steel, and titanium: four materials, one shared geometry, and the same question driving the project, what does the frame material really change when everything else stays exactly the same ?

CAD(R)E MEDIA PROJECT

Enfin le 4ᵉ épisode de notre série UN AUTRE REGARD SUR LE VÉLO !

Cette fois, on vous embarque dans un projet un peu à part, réalisé avec l’équipe de CADE MEDIA. Ça fait longtemps qu’on suit leurs podcasts et leurs vidéos. On adore leur façon de parler du vélo : avec du fond, de la curiosité, de l’humour, et surtout sans bullshit. Chez Massacan, c’est exactement ce qu’on essaie de faire aussi : concevoir des vélos bien pensés, assumer nos choix et parler franchement de ce qu’on fabrique.

De cette envie commune est née une idée toute simple : fabriquer quatre vélos. Quatre montages strictement identiques. Même géométrie, mêmes roues, même groupe, mêmes pneus, mêmes périphériques…

Une seule chose change : le matériau du cadre.
Aluminium, carbone, acier et titane.

Dans cette première vidéo (en français), on vous explique la démarche et tout ce qui se cache derrière ce projet. Deux autres épisodes suivront, un par semaine.

Pendant ce temps, les quatre vélos sont en route pour le Royaume-Uni afin de rejoindre l’équipe de CADE MEDIA. Ils les mettront à leur tour à l’épreuve dans une vidéo en anglais. Et on a hâte de découvrir leurs impressions !

It all started with a simple idea : build four bikes. Four identical builds. Same geometry, same wheels, same groupset, same tyres…

Aluminium, carbon, steel and titanium.

In this first video, we explain the thinking behind the project and what inspired it. Two more episodes will follow, with a new one released each week.

Meanwhile, the four bikes are on their way to the UK to join the CADE MEDIA team. They’ll put them through their own tests and share their impressions in an English-language video.

We can’t wait to hear what they think !

Last Monday myself and @rosmolen went out to scout new roads for the @le_pilgrimage event in September and I think we found something 'molto bene'.

Col de Sommeiller, Italy's highest gravel road situated in the Piedmont region. A uniquely long gravel road with not to crazy gradients going up all the way to 3000m. (check out the last slide for what we found at the top)

On our way back we visited @rifugioscarfiotti and checked out some bivac spots to make sure this idea is suitable for the Pilgrimage event. I think it can work but Simon still need to lay a few pieces off the parcours puzzle.

This climb was already on Simons list for a long-time and with the re-opening of Rifugio Scarfiotti (and the really friendly Italian crew) this valley could be one of the highlights of the next edition.

The Pianella steel @massacan_cc bike Simon is riding is specially made for The Pilgrimage. Painted in the events faded blue and smartly build for the rugged terrain and steep gradients. I totally agree with @mattdistazz that a flat bar is the way to go, especially down.

Very looking forward to riding this in September when it is not so hot anymore.

One climb.
Monte Grappa. 1,775 metres above sea level.

One bike.
A Fissa fixed gear, running a 52×18.

What else ?

Just soaking in the views at the gateway to the Dolomites from the top… and treating yourself to a gelato in Bassano once it’s all over.

Matthieu set himself the challenge of climbing Monte Grappa on a fixie, without changing the gear ratio. He made it look pretty easy…

So… what’s the next challenge ?

Un col.
Monte Grappa, 1 775 mètres d’altitude.

Un vélo.
Un fixie Fissa monté en 52×18.

What else ?

Profiter de la vue aux portes des Dolomites une fois au sommet… puis savourer une bonne glace à Bassano pour fêter ça.

Matthieu s’était lancé le défi de gravir le Monte Grappa en fixie, sans changer de ratio. Défi relevé, et avec une facilité déconcertante…

Alors, quel sera le prochain challenge ?

Carbonara N°11.
Custom by Tony Spray.

Maxime is no stranger to Massacan. After falling for a Paula in Shell Pink, he decided to treat himself to something even more special : a fully custom Carbonara, designed just for him.

For the paint job, he came to us with a few ideas and a color palette in mind. We gave Tony a few references, then let him do his thing. The result speaks for itself.

As for the build, it’s packed with great components : an Ultegra Di2 groupset, Miche Kleos RD 50 mm wheels, a Deda Alanera cockpit, and a gorgeous Miche carbon crankset with 50/34 chainrings. Maxime definitely didn’t hold back !

Every Carbonara is unique. Think of it as a recipe: you choose the ingredients to create the bike you’ve always dreamed of. A handmade tube-to-tube carbon frame, built just for you… what could be better ?

Max is happy. So are we ❤️

Maxime n’en est pas à son premier Massacan. Après avoir craqué pour une Paula en Shell Pink, il a décidé de se faire un plus beau cadeau encore avec un Carbonara full custom, pensé rien que pour lui.

Pour la peinture, il avait quelques idées, une palette de couleurs en tête, et le reste… on l’a confié à Tony. On lui a donné quelques références, puis on lui a laissé carte blanche. Le résultat parle de lui-même.

Côté montage, on est sur du beau matos : groupe Ultegra Di2, roues Miche Kleos RD en 50 mm, cintre Deda Alanera et un magnifique pédalier Miche carbone en 50/34. Il ne s’est pas refusé grand-chose, le Maxime !

Chaque Carbonara est unique. Vois-le comme une recette : choisis les ingrédients pour créer le vélo dont tu rêves. Un cadre carbone fabriqué à la main, en tube-to-tube, entièrement personnalisé… difficile de faire mieux.

Max est heureux. Nous aussi ❤️

Three days of pure fun with the crew, following the Pilgrimage route !

Just a few random clips because it was honestly too good not to share.

Epic trails, climb after climb, awesome MTB descents, and the best aid stations ever, with delicious homemade meals cooked by Anne.

Trois jours de pur kiff avec les copains sur les traces du Pilgrimage !

Quelques images en vrac parce que c’était juste trop bien.

Un parcours magnifique, des montées à n’en plus finir, des descentes VTT de folie, et des ravitos au top avec les délicieux petits plats préparés par Anne.

Le petit Pilgrimage.

The Ecrins, bikes, and good friends.

« In the morning, some of us had a hard time getting out of bed and finding the motivation to ride. But Simon promised us an incredible view.

So after breakfast, we all got back on our bikes and followed him.

Heading for the big rock overlooking the refuge.

And honestly ?
It was more than worth the effort.

Three days that went by far too quickly.

And when it was time to head back down, there was one thing we wanted more than anything : to stay up there just a little longer »

« Le matin, certains avaient un peu de mal à ouvrir les yeux et à trouver la motivation pour rouler. Mais Simon nous promettait une vue de folie.

Alors après le petit déjeuner on remonte tous en selle et on le suit.

Direction le gros caillou qui domine le refuge.

Et franchement ?
Ça valait largement l’effort.

Trois jours passés beaucoup trop vite.

Et au moment de redescendre, on avait surtout une envie : rester encore un peu là-haut »

Pianella is one of those bikes that always felt like it belonged in the lineup from day one. A more capable hardtail MTB, designed to run a suspension fork and handle rougher terrain. We didn’t know at first whether it would be steel or aluminum, but the idea itself was obvious. It was simply a bike we wanted to build.

The project went through plenty of iterations before reaching production, and today we’re excited to introduce a new generation of the frame, with a few key updates.

New frame, one clear geometry. Pianella is designed around a 100 mm suspension fork, ans BASTA !

Pianella fait partie de ces vélos qui ont toujours semblé avoir leur place dans la gamme, dès le premier jour. L’idée était simple : créer un VTT rigide plus capable, pensé pour recevoir une fourche suspendue et ouvrir un peu plus le champ des possibles. Acier ou aluminium, on ne savait pas encore, mais une chose était sûre : ce vélo devait exister. C’était un projet qui nous tenait à cœur.

Le projet est passé par de nombreuses étapes avant d’arriver à sa version définitive. Aujourd’hui, on vous présente une nouvelle génération du cadre avec quelques nouveautés.

Un nouveau cadre, une géométrie unique. Le Pianella est conçu pour fonctionner avec une fourche suspendue de 100 mm, et basta !
