Debate is happening now! We need your continued help in promoting legislation to enhance #roadsafety.

The Economic Development bill, which is currently in the Massachusetts State House Conference Committee, clarifies the definitions of different kinds of #micromobility and includes two amendments in the Senate version — one on the use of speed cameras with strong data privacy protections (no Flock cameras) in designated zones and the other on truck safety.

Contact your representatives and ask them to support it – it will make our streets safer for everyone.

Learn more about the current legislation here:
https://www.massbike.org/economic_development_bill_2026

#bikesafety #trafficsafety Update on traffic safety and micromobility legislation: Contact your legislators to approve these provisions. Micromobility provision to the omnibus Economic Development bill establishes a comprehensive framework for micromobility devices, including electric bicycles, by setting definitions and speed tiers, age requirements, safety equipment and electrical standards, and restrictions on modifications that increase speed or power. Amendments related to road safety to the omnibus Economic Development bill include Amendment #215: allows speed cameras with strong data privacy protections (no Flock cameras) in work zones, school zones, and designated "safety zones" within a municipality and Amendment #160: incentivizes truck drivers and companies to install truck safety features like sideguards and convex mirrors. taken in Massachusetts by @massbike

We had a great time with fellow advocates at the New England Traffic Safety Education Association Fall Conference yesterday in Boxboro.

Our Executive Director Galen Mook and our coalition partner @saferoadsalliance’s Emily Stein connected with regional driver and #trafficsafety education instructors on the latest resources for road safety, including MassBike’s drivers’ education videos on sharing the roads with bikes in collaboration with the Massachusetts Registry of Vehicles.

We’ve heard the videos have been getting used and we look forward to receiving more feedback on how we can help educate all road users about #roadsafety.

People are still dying on our streets. The loss of advocates like Louisa Gag and Prof. Thomas Rose shows we must keep fighting at every level.

What we’re demanding:

State: Pass speed-camera & truck-safety laws.
New Bill: “Stop Super Speeders” bill for GPS speed limiters.

City: Boston must accelerate street-safety commitments.

Federal: Defend threatened cycling & pedestrian funding.

With the Autumn Equinox upon us, the days are getting shorter and it will be getting dark earlier before you know it. That means now is the perfect time to make sure your white front bike lights and red rear bike lights are working properly - in fact, it’s the law!

Our Lights Brigade program distributes FREE front and rear bike lights to make riding safer and compliant with state law in communities throughout Massachusetts.

There are three ways you can get involved:

1. Organize a street corner or bike path lights distribution in your community.

2. Host a bike lights distribution at your organization or event.

3. Donate to support Lights Brigade.

For more information, please visit: https://www.massbike.org/lightsbrigade

Happy Back to School Week! As the school year begins, we wanted to share some #bikesafety resources for students, families, bike riders and motorists about biking to and from school.

We work with our partners at the state level, @massdot, the Registry of Motor Vehicles, Safe Routes to School, and local education programs to make riding bikes to school safe, accessible, and supported by the community.

You can find more information on our Safety Resources page as well as our Bike Education page:

https://www.massbike.org/safety_resources

https://www.massbike.org/education_resources Back to school bike safety resources. Scan the street for tiny wheels and tiny feet. Bike education resources include bike rodeos, Safe Routes to School programming, and bike safety in new drivers' education. Bike commuting resources include setting up bike "buses" and sharing the path. Bike safety resources include bike safety classes and youth e-bike and micromobility guides. All of these can be found on MassBike's website. taken in Massachusetts by @massbike

Earlier this summer, we attended the 4th Annual Western Massachusetts Transportation Advocacy Network Forum (WMTAN), where members of the public, local advocates, community partners, statewide advocacy organizations, and both local and national politicians met to discuss regional advocacy, empowering vulnerable road users, transportation funding, and more.

MassBike’s Regional Advocacy Specialist Alexis Hosea-Abbott spoke on a panel about resident #bikeadvocacy in the Lower Connecticut River Valley.

Read our recap and find the links to rewatch the sessions here:

Celebrating four years of the E-Bike Program! Hear from Joe, one of the E-Bike Program participants in Worcester, about his experience. taken in Massachusetts by @massbike

This month, we celebrated four years since our very first E-Bike Program deployment on August 8, 2022.

Thanks to @masscec, which funded the pilot program, we started in the spring of 2022 with the launch of an application for what was then a pilot program with 100 #ebikes available to income-eligible Worcester residents. We knew there would be interest, but we were still surprised when nearly 1,200 people applied.

The lessons we learned in Worcester helped inform the development of Massachusetts’ statewide E-Bike Voucher Program. When that program launched in 2025, MassCEC held its celebration at Landry’s Bicycles in Worcester and recognized the impact of MassBike’s pilot. MassBike was also selected to help with community outreach for the statewide program.

Hear from Joe, one of the E-Bike Program participants, about his experience.
