๐Ÿ—“ September wrapped up with 10 games, 9 different stadiums and 5 new grounds ticked off the list. Not a bad month at all. ๐ŸŸ

๐ŸŽซ The month kicked off with a painful 1 for KV Mechelen, watching Westerlo stroll to a 0-4 win Achter de Kazerne. A day later we headed to Kortrijk for the long-awaited Vlasico where Zulte Waregem snatched the derby with 2 goals deep into stoppage time. A week later it was off to the iconic Stade Charles Tondreau in Mons for Renaissance AEC Mons vs Royal Union Tubize-Braine, before visiting the historical Pierre Cornelisstadion where a reborn Eendracht Aalst edged Jong KV Mechelen in another game settled late on.
Limburg followed here after with a cracking atmosphere at Sporting Hasselt vs Beerschot before a much less memorable 0-0 between Lommel SK and KV Mechelen at the Soevereinstadion. The U21 European Championship qualifiers then took centre stage. Belgium hosted both Belarus and Wales at โ€™t Kuipje in Westerlo and won both games 1-0 with Norman Bassette proving the difference on each occasion.
Of course no month is complete without some Croky Cup magic. We headed to Izegem where Sporting Hasselt needed 2 stoppage-time goals to finally shake off a stubborn Mandel United. The following day, together with fellow groundhopper @echteengroundhopper , we visited one of Belgiumโ€™s most beautiful hidden gems: Parc des Roches in Rochefort. There Lierse looked safely through at 0-2 up before Union Rochefortoise produced a stunning comeback to win 3-2 and send the home crowd into dreamland.

Now on to October. More Croky Cup action awaits, tickets are already secured for a few tasty ties. The Nations League had a game in store already and the groundhop calendar is starting to fill up nicely once again. ๐ŸŽƒ

โšฝ๏ธ 7' N. Bassette 1-0
๐ŸŸฅ 40' D. Cox (Wales, 2x yellow)

โšฝ๏ธ Belgium U21 got the job done against Wales, beating the visitors 1-0 in Westerlo to stay top of the group and move 1 step closer to the European Championship. It wasn't a classic but with so much at stake the result was all that mattered.

The only goal arrived after just 7 minutes. Romeo Vermant whipped in a low cross and Norman Bassette finished brilliantly with a backheel, continuing his hot streak after also scoring the winner against Belarus.

Belgium controlled most of the game but never really killed it off. Wales stayed in the contest and even created a huge chance through Agius, only for Lucca Brughmans to pull off an excellent save. Just before halftime the visitors made life even harder for themselves when Cox picked up a 2nd yellow card for a foul on Vermant.

The Young Devils pushed for a 2nd goal after the break with Bassette, Vermant and Mirisola all going close but the score stayed at 1-0. Wales kept fighting and even threw their goalkeeper forward for a late corner, creating a few nervous moments before the final whistle.

In the end it was another narrow but important win. Belgium remains top of the group and now heads into a decisive showdown with Denmark, knowing a draw will be enough to secure a direct ticket to the UEFA Under 21 European Championship.

๐ŸŸ โ€™t Kuipje is one of Belgiumโ€™s most charming football grounds, small by topโ€‘flight standards but packed with character. Itโ€™s the home of KVC Westerlo and holds just over 8,000 supporters. Creating a tight atmosphere where fans sit close to the pitch. Surrounded by trees and training pitches, it feels more like a football village than a stadium complex. Westerlo was also one of the first Belgian clubs to remove crowd barriers. It may not be the biggest ground but on a packed evening 't Kuipje feels much bigger than its capacity suggests.

โšฝ๏ธ Lierse looked comfortably on course for the next round of the Croky Cup, only to suffer 1 of the shocks of the weekend as Union Rochefortoise came back from 0-2 down to win 3-2. What seemed like a routine afternoon for the Pallieters turned into a nightmare in the final quarter of the match.

The visitors made the perfect start when El Touile fired them ahead after just 9 minutes. Dwomoh doubled the lead around the halfโ€‘hour mark and at that stage it felt like game over. Rochefortoise struggled to create much and Lierse seemed firmly on course for the next round.

But the home side came out with renewed belief after halftime and gradually began pushing Lierse further back. In the 73rd minute, Mathieu Cornet headed home a cross from Samy Tory to make it 1-2 and suddenly belief returned to the home side. 2 minutes later Cornet turned provider as Jarno Libert fired in the equaliser. Lierse looked shellโ€‘shocked and Rochefortoise sensed blood.

With 4 minutes left the comeback was complete. Libert delivered the ball this time and Cornet finished it off for 3-2, sending the home fans into dreamland.

From comfortably ahead to out of the cup, Lierse threw away a 2โ€‘goal lead and saw its cup run end in dramatic fashion. For Rochefortoise it was the kind of cup night supporters will be talking about for years.

๐ŸŸ Parc des Roches is a magical grounds. Nestled right in the heart of Rochefort, the stadium feels more like part of the village than a sports venue. Walk through the shopping street and you already catch glimpses of the pitch, while the town's impressive basilica rises above the rooftops in the background. The ground itself is a beauty: trees standing almost on the touchline, and a main stand literally built into the hillside. Easily 1 of the most picturesque football venues in Belgium.

โšฝ๏ธ 31' A. Matoka 0-1, 48' A. Desot 1-1, 90'+1' L. Milts 1-2, 90'+3' M. Bounou 1-3

โšฝ๏ธ Sporting Hasselt avoided a major Croky Cup upset, but only just, eventually winning 1-3 thanks to 2 goals deep into stoppage time. For long stretches, the amateur side actually looked the better team and had Sporting Hasselt in trouble.

Backed by a lively crowd Mandel started with confidence and caused Hasselt plenty of problems. The home side looked the more dangerous team for long spells and De Spor struggled to find rhythm. The visitors grabbed the lead against the run of play after half an hour when Alain Matoka headed in a cross, but the game never felt under control.

Early in the 2nd half Arthur Desot deservedly levelled for Mandel, the underdogs kept believing. In fact, they almost completed the turnaround when they hit the post as they pushed for a famous upset. Hasselt gradually took more control after the hour mark but Mandelโ€™s defence refused to crack. It looked like extra time was coming until the 91st minute when Livio Milts finally made it 1-2. Moments later Bounou added a 3rd on the counter to put the result beyond doubt and make the scoreline look far more comfortable than the match had actually been.

Sporting Hasselt had to dig deep to get through while Mandel United can bow out with their heads held high after pushing a Challenger Pro League side to the limit.

๐ŸŸ Skyline Arena is a compact football ground in Izegem and the home of RFC Mandel United since 2019. It holds around 2.200 spectators and serves as the clubโ€™s main hub. The ground features 1 main stand with seating, the clubhouse and canteen. Opposite that thereโ€™s a small standing terrace running along the touchline.
Behind both goals there are no stands at all, just open areas where supporters often watch from the railings.

โšฝ๏ธ Belgium did exactly what it had to do against Belarus: win. The Young Devils ground out a 1-0 victory in Westerlo. While it wasn't a match full of highlights, the 3 points could prove huge in the race for the European Championship.

Belgium dominated possession from the start but Belarus sat deep and made life difficult. Mbangula came closest before the break, curling an effort just wide of the top corner, but clear chances were hard to come by and the teams went into halftime level.

The turning point arrived just after the hour mark. Belarus defender Apetenok picked up a 2nd yellow card after a foul on Vermant, leaving the visitors down to 10 men. Minutes later Vermant was shoved in the box after a flick-on from Bassette and the referee pointed to the spot.

Bassette stepped up himself and calmly slotted the penalty into the bottom corner for 1-0. It wasn't spectacular but it was enough. Belgium stayed in control for the rest of the match while Belarus rarely threatened a comeback.

1 of the late positives was the 1st appearance of Jesse Bisiwu, fresh from his move to Barcelona, who showed a few nice touches off the bench. In the end it wasn't a performance that will be remembered for years but it was a professional win and 3 valuable points, Belgium remains firmly on course in Group 9.

โ™ป๏ธ 3th visit

๐ŸŸ Lommel SK (12.) - KV Mechelen (16.), 0-0
โšฝ๏ธ -

โšฝ๏ธ Lommel SK and KV Mechelen played out a 0-0 that felt exactly like that: plenty of effort, a few flashes but nobody sharp enough to finish the job at the Gestelsedijk.
Mechelen arrived desperate for a 1st win of the season and started with decent intent, pushing Lommel back without really hurting them. Lommel answered with counters from Reyners and Talvitie, but both sides mostly traded half-chances and loose touches. The 1st half drifted by, messy and slow, and the 0-0 at the break was about right.

After halftime things finally opened up. KV Mechelen created the better possibilities: Boersma forced Pieklak into a sharp save, Van Brederode saw his shot tipped over and Raman slid one just wide. Lommel stayed dangerous in transition but Pieklak kept them in it with a couple of big stops, easily the standout player on the pitch.

The real drama came in the final minutes. Raman pressed Adewoye in the box, stole the ball and squared perfectly for Mbasi who seemed ready to score the winner. But Pieklak threw himself across the line and somehow kept it out, with Van Duivenโ€™s last-second touch helping him out. That was the moment, and Mechelen let it slip.

So it ends 0-0: Lommel happy enough with a point, KV Mechelen stuck on 3 out of 21 and still waiting for that 1st win. A match with chances, tension and frustration but no goals to show for it.

๐ŸŸ Tucked into the quiet green edges of Lommel and carrying decades of local football culture the ground opened as the Stedelijk Sportstadion, later it became the Soevereinstadion and has long been the home of Lommel SK, including the former club that folded in 2002.
Before the reforms it was a big, raw cauldron: 12.500 places, mostly standing, with only 1.800 covered seats.
When Belgian football reshaped its professional tiers, the stadium had to meet 1A standards and capacity dropped to roughly 8.000.

๐Ÿ“ธ Note: Security didn't allow the camera in.

โ™ป๏ธ 3th visit

๐ŸŸ Sporting Hasselt (7.) - Beerschot VA (1.), 0-1
โšฝ๏ธ 52โ€™ A. Haj Mohamed 0-1

โšฝ๏ธ Hasselt pushed Beerschot right to the edge in a match that felt tight and tense but 1 sharp moment on a corner made all the difference: 0-1, the league leaders leaving Limburg with the points while Hasselt was left wondering how this 1 slipped away.
Beerschot started cleaner, moving the ball well and threatening through Plat and Wrightโ€‘Phillips but De Spor didnโ€™t blink. Masscho fired wide, Ngoyi cut inside with intent and gradually the home crowd felt the momentum shift. By halftime the match had opened up, Sporting had the better looks and Beerschot looked anything but comfortable yet the scoreboard stayed stuck at 0-0.

Right after the break came the turning point. Wrightโ€‘Phillips and Vula forced Cascio into a brilliant double save but on the resulting corner Van Eenoo dropped in a perfect ball and Haj Mohamed met it with a slick backwards header. A clean action, a goal and suddenly De Ratten had exactly what they came for.

The rest of the match was the hosts throwing everything forward. Milts whipped in dangerous crosses, Bounou tried from distance, Vandekerkhoven kept hammering at the back line and Cascio had to pull off a huge save on Plat to keep hope alive. The stadium grew louder with every attack. Then came the moment everyone will remember: deep into added time Orye curled a perfect ball across the goalmouth, the kind you dream of tapping in, but nobody could reach it.
Seconds later the final whistle blew. Sporting lost, Beerschot stays top of the league.

๐ŸŸ The Stedelijk Sportstadion is a small, lively municipal ground. Itโ€™s not a large arena but thatโ€™s exactly its charm: the stands sit close to the pitch. The stadium is part of a broader sports complex used by several local teams and community events, giving it a distinctly open, accessible feel. On matchdays though, it transforms into a tight football bowl.

๐ŸŸฅ 90'+4' M. Van Helden (KVM, 2x yellow)

โšฝ๏ธ Eendracht Aalst Lede edged out Jong KV Mechelen 3-2 in a lively back-and-forth match that started at full speed and only calmed down once the final whistle blew. The home side exploded out of the blocks: after just 5 minutes Dekuyper headed in the opener, 3 minutes later he doubled the lead with a slight touch on a freeโ€‘kick. Aalst Lede looked in total control, creating chance after chance through Triest, Geenens and Samyn but the 3rd goal wouldnโ€™t fall.

Right before halftime Jong KVM found a lifeline. Van Helden curled a freeโ€‘kick into the top corner, a perfect strike that suddenly changed the mood.
After the break Aalst Lede kept pushing but the crossbar turned into their worst enemy: Lanckman, De Vriendt and Van Acker all smashed efforts onto the woodwork. And as football loves irony, Mechelen equalised on the counter. Everaert sprinted in from the left and slid the ball past Schelfhout for 2-2.

The home fans kept roaring and Aalst Lede kept coming. Vandamme forced a save, Geenens hit the bar again, pressure kept rising. In the final minute Hornick was pushed over in the box, the ref pointed to the spot and Ndefe buried the penalty low into the corner. The stadium erupted. In the final minutes Van Helden picked up 2 yellows in a chaotic ending of a tense match.

Aalst Lede stays perfect with 9 points, playing confident football and showing real resilience after the equaliser. Jong KV fought back well but the late penalty made sure the points stayed in Aalst.

๐ŸŸ Aalst's stadium is to be found next to Heilig Hartkerk. The ground is named after Pierre Cornelis following his wartime assassination. In the glory days it packed 12.000 fans, terraces shaking, Aalst roaring. Capacity later dropped to 4.500.

๐ŸŸฅ 74' Y. M'Madi (Tubize)

โšฝ๏ธ Renaissance AEC Mons and Royal Union Tubizeโ€‘Braine delivered a lively 2-2 draw at Le Tondreau, a match that stayed tight for long stretches before exploding into late drama. Tubize struck 1st just before halftime when Yakine Mโ€™Madi headed in a corner from Navarro. Mons reacted well after the break and levelled on the hour: Loris Brogno slipped a clever outsideโ€‘ofโ€‘theโ€‘foot pass through the defence and Mayron De Almeida finished coolly past Cremers.

Tubizeโ€‘Braineโ€™s evening got complicated when Mโ€™Madi was sent off in the 74th minute, leaving the visitors to survive the final quarter with 10 men. RAEC Mons pushed, the crowd sensed a winner, but Tubizeโ€‘Braine stayed stubborn and waited for 1 clean counter.

That moment came in the 89th minute. A long ball sent Nathan Monkoy into space. Vachoux rushed far out of his box, Monkoy rounded him and rolled the ball in from a good 20 metres. A cold, clinical counterpunch that stunned the stadium and looked like the winner.

But Mons refused to die. Straight from the restart, chaos in the box allowed Bosango to smash in the 2-2 and rescue a point at the last possible second. Relief for Mons. Frustration for Tubizeโ€‘Braine and another chapter in a matchup that never seems to produce a straightforward result.

๐ŸŸ Stade Charles Tondreau is the historic football ground of Mons, tucked just north of the city itself.
Opened in 1910 it's been the home of RAEC Mons for more than a century and today holds around 6.000 fans. The stadium has seen several renovations, especially during Mons' rise to the Belgian top flight in the 2000's when new boxes, media spaces and safer tribunes were added. After the 2015 bankruptcy the ground hosted Queฬvy-Mons and Rapid Symphorinois before RAEC was reborn in 2020 and returned to its home.

๐ŸŸฅ 62' R. Storman (KVK)

โšฝ๏ธ KV Kortrijk put in 1 of its bravest performances of the season, but Zulte Waregem still pinched the derby 0-2 in the final minutes. A cruel ending to a match Kortrijk had under control for most of the afternoon. In a packed Guldensporenstadion the hosts started with real intent. The home team pressed high, won duels and kept Essevee pinned back. Podgoreanu tested Bostyn early and the crowd felt Kortrijk finally had a spark. Zulte Waregem barely created anything in the 1st half and looked stuck under Kortrijkโ€™s pressure.

After the break the match stayed tight. Mbayeโ€™s introduction gave Waregem more pace but Kortrijk still looked the more eager side, until the moment that flipped KVK. Mbaye sprinted clear, Storman pulled him down and after VAR intervention the Kortrijk defender was sent off. From then on Kortrijkโ€™s brave control turned into pure survival.

Even with 10 men KVK kept fighting. Ilic saved brilliantly from Lemoineโ€™s effort and Vroninks nearly surprised Bostyn at the other end. The pressure kept building and in extra time Essevee finally broke through. Ementa muscled past Ruyssen and squared the ball for Akpa who tapped in the 0-1 and stunned the stadium. Kortrijk barely had time to breathe before Mbaye burst down the right again and set up Aฬtrok for 0-2, sending the away end into full celebration.

Kortrijk stays stuck on 0, despite a performance full of grit and effort. Zulte Waregem, still unbeaten, showed that even on a bad day they can finish the job.

๐ŸŸ Built in 1947, and renovated a few times since, the Guldensporenstadion holds 9.399 fans packed in steep stands that give a raw vibe. Nothing fancy, no modern arena gloss. Just concrete, noise and fans who live every duel. The ground is named after the Battle of the Golden Spurs. On derby days it still is something of a battleground.

โšฝ๏ธ KV Mechelen had a nightmare evening Achter de Kazerne, losing 0-4 to a sharp and hungry Westerlo in a match that never felt close. The visitors, desperate for their 1st win of the season, came flying out of the blocks and were already ahead after 7 minutes when Sakamoto tapped in Flรธโ€™s cross too easily. KV looked flat, nervous and miles off the pace.

Westerlo kept pushing and found space everywhere. Midway through the 1st half Saito sliced through the KVM defence and calmly made it 0-2, a goal that summed up the difference in intensity. The home crowd responded with whistles and honestly it was hard to blame them.

After halftime De Kakkers tried to show some fight but it didnโ€™t last. Westerlo stayed cleaner and quicker and just after the hour mark Saito struck again for 0-3, finishing a smart pullโ€‘back from Congreve. That was the knockout punch, Mechelen never looked like responding.

The final blow came from a familiar face. Nikola Storm, a fan favourite in Mechelen, curled in a trademark finish for 0-4. No celebration. Just a wave of cynical applause from the home stands, a mix of respect and pure frustration.

Westel finally got the win theyโ€™d been chasing, led by a brilliant Japanese duo. For KVM this was a painful collapse and a worrying sign: 2 points from 15, defensive chaos and a fanbase running out of patience.

๐ŸŸ Known for its intensity and unity, Achter de Kazerne is one of the most atmospheric rich stadiums in Belgian football. Supporters often describe it as a place where you don't just watch football, you feฬeฬl it.
It is more than a venue. It's a symbol of KVM's identity, resilience and community. It is a combination of history, modern upgrades and raw passion ever since it has been the home of Malinwa in 1911.
