THE ALGORITHMIC CHILDHOOD INITIATIVE

As parents, carers and teachers we check our children's homework, we check what they're eating.. we even check who they're friends with.

But when was the last time you checked on their thinking?

Have you ever sat to think if you know how?

I'm not talking about what they know nor what grades they're getting.

How they're thinking...

What influences them...

What shapes their opinions...

What captures their attention...

What they believe...

What they question...

What they never question.,,

Because in an age of algorithms, influence doesn't arrive through the front door.

It arrives through recommendation feeds, autoplay functions and content designed to keep attention for as long as possible.

This isn't about fear.

It's about awareness.

Perhaps one of the most important safeguarding conversations of the next decade won't simply be online safety.

It will be cognitive safeguarding.

How do we help children develop the ability to think for themselves?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Link in bio or comment 'STUDY' and ill DM you the link alongside details to our upcoming workshop.

Your child’s brain might be shrinking. And no one’s talking about it.

The hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for learning, memory, and emotional regulation - is now showing measurable shrinkage in children over the last decade.

Why?

Because the brain’s most powerful muscle is going unused.

With every tap, swipe, and auto-complete, we train the mind to imitate memory rather than build it.
Technology has become an external hard drive for the brain — efficient, but dangerous.
When a child doesn’t have to recall, reflect, or reason, their hippocampus stops stretching.

And what doesn’t stretch… shrinks.

Let’s stop confusing access to information with education. - KW

The question isn’t “What does your child know?”
It’s “What can your child do with what they know?”

When i was in schools I grew tired of watching teachers gaslight parents into believing their children were 'intelligent' because they could retain a bunch of information. While that was already a completely ill mark of intelligence - that is not even the case anymore because everything is automated! We must do something. Connect with me today - let's talk.

THE NEXT GENERATION NEED CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS TO SURVIVE THE PLIGHT OF AI

There is no doubt that there are several unaddreased gaps in learning with attending public schools so as the significant adults present (parents, carers and teachers)

𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚊𝚛𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚍𝚘𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚘 𝚑𝚎𝚕𝚙 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚕𝚍𝚛𝚎𝚗 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚐 𝚙𝚎𝚘𝚙𝚕𝚎 𝚊𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚔 𝚖𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚌𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚌𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢?

At Mastercrafters Network, we offer critical thinking debate clubs for beginners and more radical thinkers to steer them in the right direction when it comes to the notion of autonomy

📖🧠💻💡Classes start W/C 23rd September 2024
Register your child & book your assessment now via our website📖🧠💻💡

But, how can you start today?

👉🏾 ACTIVE LISTENING

Allow more time for their thoughts to fully form and sometimes that takes a while. If something, inappropriate is said do not punish but use questioning to steer their thinking

👉🏾 FEED THEIR EXCITEMENT

Make sure you stick to the topic at hand. The aim to be dig deeper into understanding as opposed to patronising them (they pick this up and shut down).

👉🏾 BE INTERESTED (Genuinely)

Don't engage if you don't have the capacity because it does more damage to visibly fake engagement than if you express how you're feeling. They'll understand, this makes a safe space so that they recognise it is okay to share their ideas and feelings with you.

Comment below & let us know which one you struggle with the most when it comes to helping your child(ren) think outside the box!

Ever recognise that as much you as you watch and observe your child, they are also watching and observing you. Yes, you are part of the experiment too..
When it comes to identity formation
Children notice our attention where goes, how its captured and lost. They notice when we reach for our phones, when we rush, when we change our minds, when we apologise and when we become curious.. How do we teach them to develop autonomy in their own thought, actions and decisions? 🚨 FREE Parent Workshop

"They're becoming someone I don't recognise after they've been online."

"I don't know how to keep up."

*"I feel like I'm failing."* you are NOT.

Who is shaping your child's thinking when you are not in the room?

Children today aren't just growing up online.

They're growing up inside digital environments designed to capture attention, influence decisions and shape identity.

As a former teacher of seven years, Critical Thinking Coach and founder of Master Crafters Network Hub CIC, I've spent years working with children, parents and schools.

One question keeps becoming more urgent:

Are we preparing children to navigate algorithms as well as we prepare them to cross the road?

That's why I'm inviting you to a FREE live online parent workshop.

This isn't another webinar telling you to "reduce screen time."

It's a practical conversation about what's really happening inside our children's digital worlds, and what we can do about it.

During the session we'll explore:
🧠 Why attention is becoming one of the most valuable resources affecting children's learning, confidence and behaviour.

📱How algorithms quietly influence identity, friendships, beliefs and emotional wellbeing.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Practical ways to build stronger critical thinking at home without constant conflict.

💬 How to start conversations that children actually want to have about social media, gaming and online life.

🔍 The warning signs every parent should understand as technology rapidly changes.

Special Guest
I'm delighted that we'll also be joined by Cyber Choices, with a police representative sharing:

✔ Real case studies

✔ Current online risks affecting young people in modern childhood

✔ Practical tips to help keep children safer online and offline

✔ Advice on where parents can go for support if they're worried

This is an opportunity to *hear directly from professionals really working on the frontline of digital safeguarding.#criticalthinking by @mastercraftersnetworkhub

Can a child truly master their craft if they lack the ability to think for themselves?

Many of the emerging frameworks around AI, digital literacy and online safety are asking an important question:

"What do children need to know?"

I'm increasingly interested in a different question:

"Who do children need to become?"

Knowledge matters.

Skills matter.

But childhood has never simply been about information acquisition.

It is a process of identity formation.

In an age of algorithms, recommendation systems and AI-generated content, we should be asking whether our frameworks adequately address:

• Identity development
• Agency
• Critical thinking
• Authenticity
• Attention
• Human relationships
• Self-understanding

The challenge isn't simply preparing children to use technology.

It's helping them understand how technology may be shaping them.

That's why I increasingly view critical thinking as a safeguarding competency.

Not because it protects children from information.

But because it helps protect their ability to become themselves.

As we develop new frameworks for the future, perhaps we should spend less time asking what children need to learn and more time asking what conditions allow children to remain authors of their own development. by @mastercraftersnetworkhub

In order for a child to master a craft, they must first learn to think.
When was the last time you checked in on your child's thinking?

We check our children's homework.

We check who they're friends with.

We check what they're eating.

But when was the last time you checked on their thinking?

Not what they know.

Not what grades they're getting.

How they're thinking.

What influences them.

What shapes their opinions.

What captures their attention.

What they believe.

What they question.

What they never question.

Support our study through the Algorithmic Childhood Initiative

we'd love to hear about your lived experiences.
