He stopped going to his Saturday game. He’s on the couch most evenings, scrolling but not really there, and when you ask what’s going on, the answer is always the same: “I’m just tired.” It’s easy to take that at face value. But depression in men doesn’t always look like sadness or tears. Often it looks like pulling away from the things he used to love, a shorter fuse, longer hours at work, or a kind of tired that a full night’s sleep never seems to fix. Many men grew up believing that carrying things quietly is what strength looks like, so they may not have the words for what they’re feeling or recognize it as depression at all. That’s often why the people closest to them notice first. You don’t have to diagnose him or fix it. Sometimes the most loving thing you can do is gently name what you’re seeing and remind him that talking to someone is a healthy step, not a weakness. When “I’m just tired” starts to sound like something more, a therapist can help him find the words he hasn’t been able to say. Need someone to talk to? We got you! Maybe you still flinch when a door closes too hard. Maybe you go quiet the moment voices get raised, or you find yourself watching everyone’s mood before you relax in a room. When you grow up walking on eggshells, your body learns to stay on alert long after you’ve left that house. What you grew up seeing isn’t what you have to repeat. The yelling, the silence, and the constant bracing may have shaped how you learned to love, argue, and protect yourself, but they don’t get to decide how the rest of your story goes. Healing doesn’t mean pretending it didn’t happen. It means slowly learning that calm can feel safe, that you’re allowed to speak up, and that the home you build now can feel different from the one you came from. You don’t have to carry what you grew up with by yourself anymore. If you’re not safe right now, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-7233. Need someone to talk to? We got you! They used to laugh at every notification, holding their phone up to show you a funny video before you even asked. Lately, though, something has shifted. Their phone lights up and they flinch. They turn it face down, go quiet at dinner, and suddenly don’t want to go to school. It’s National Bullying Prevention Month, and small changes like these are worth noticing. Cyberbullying doesn’t always come with a big announcement. It often shows up as avoiding their phone, sudden mood swings, trouble sleeping, or pulling away from friends they used to love. When you notice it, ask gently instead of taking the phone away. Many kids stay silent because they’re afraid of losing access to their friends or getting in trouble. A calm “I’ve noticed you seem stressed when your phone goes off. Want to talk about it?” can open a door that a punishment would close. You don’t have to wait for the full story to start helping them feel safe again. Need someone to talk to? We got you! Your child comes home, heads straight to their room, and keeps their phone face down on the bed. Dinner is quiet. When you ask how their day went, you get a shrug and a “fine.” Sometimes the hardest moments of their day don’t happen at school at all. They happen on a screen. October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and online words leave real marks. Cyberbullying can shake a child’s confidence, disrupt their sleep, and leave them feeling unsafe long after the screen goes dark. Start by talking early and often, so online safety feels like a regular conversation instead of a punishment. Kids open up more when they aren’t afraid of getting in trouble. Review privacy settings together, limit who can message them, and turn off location sharing on their social apps. Most of all, be their safe place. Remind them it’s never their fault, and that telling you took real courage. If the hurt lingers, support can help them heal. Parents, how do you bring up online safety at home? You don’t have to figure out what to say next on your own. Need someone to talk to? We got you! Our therapists are accepting new clients and are ready to meet you exactly where you are. You still get up, go to work, answer the emails, and make it to every pickup on time. From the outside, nothing looks wrong. But inside, everything feels heavy, and you honestly can’t remember the last time you felt like yourself. It’s Depression Education and Awareness Month, and this is one of the signs people miss most often. Depression doesn’t always stop you from functioning. Sometimes it looks like going through the motions while the joy slowly drains out of everything you do. The laughs feel forced. The weekends don’t recharge you. The things you used to look forward to just feel like more to get through. Showing up every day doesn’t mean you’re okay, and it doesn’t mean you have to keep carrying this by yourself. The version of you that felt light, present, and like yourself is still worth finding again. You don’t have to keep holding it together on your own to prove you’re fine. Need someone to talk to? You haven’t answered that text in four days. You keep meaning to. You skipped lunch again, not because you were busy, but because nothing sounded good. And when someone asks what’s going on, you say you’ve just been lazy lately. October is Depression Education and Awareness Month, and one of the most important things to know is that depression doesn’t always look like sadness. Sometimes it looks like losing motivation for things that used to feel easy, changes in your appetite, or slowly pulling away from the people you care about. Those aren’t flaws in who you are. What you’ve been calling laziness might be exhaustion you can’t explain yet, and that’s okay. You don’t need the perfect words to start talking about it. How have you really been feeling lately? Whenever you’re ready to talk, you won’t have to find the words alone. Need someone to talk to? We got you! Our therapists are accepting new clients and are ready to meet you exactly where you are. You’re the one who keeps showing up. You smile through the hard days, answer every “How are you?” with “Good, just busy,” and check on everybody else before you think about yourself. And quietly, you’ve been carrying more than anyone knows. World Mental Health Day is a reminder that every mind matters, including the strong ones. The dependable ones. The ones everyone else leans on. Being the person who holds it all together doesn’t mean you don’t need someone to hold space for you, too. You don’t have to wait until you fall apart to deserve support. Your mind matters too. You deserve care too. You’ve carried it quietly long enough, and you don’t have to carry it alone. It’s 11 p.m. and you’re typing it into the search bar again: “Why am I so tired all the time?” You’ve blamed it on work, the kids’ schedules, not enough water, too much coffee. Maybe it’s just stress. Maybe next week will be better. October is Depression and Mental Health Screening Month, and here’s something worth knowing: a mental health screening is simply a check-in. It’s a conversation with someone trained to help you make sense of what you’ve been feeling. It doesn’t label you or lock you into anything. It just helps you stop guessing. Care should reach everyone, and that includes you. You’ve given the search bar enough of your questions. You deserve real answers from someone who knows. You don’t have to figure out what the tiredness means on your own. Need someone to talk to? We got you! Our therapists are accepting new clients and are ready to meet you exactly where you are. You'd drive your mom to her appointment without a second thought. You'd send a friend a therapist's number the minute they told you they were struggling. But when you're the one lying awake at 2 a.m., snapping at the people you love, or feeling heavy for no clear reason, the answer is always the same: "I'm fine. Other people have it worse." October is Depression and Mental Health Screening Month, and we're talking about access to care. Distance, cost, and long waitlists are real barriers, and they matter. But there's one we don't talk about enough: the quiet voice that says your struggle doesn't count yet. That it isn't serious enough. That help is meant for someone else. Care should reach everyone, and that includes you. You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support. You just have to be tired of carrying it alone. Be honest with us: what's been holding you back from getting help? Time, cost, or telling yourself "I'm fine"? Whatever your answer is, the door is open whenever you're ready to walk through it. Need someone to talk to? We got you! Our therapists are accepting new clients and are ready to meet you exactly where you are.
